D700 price: How long do you think it will last?

Just to clarify, I am not waiting on a price drop. I won't have access to the money until September when I receive my student loan. Purchasing now is not an option though I would really really love to. I just can't. No credit card and our savings is for a house down payment. Waiting is my only option. :(

None of us knows how long this trend is going to last. Any comments here is, at best, guesses. Part of it may depend on how well the local currency does against the Yen in the upcoming months, for instance. But given that you won't have money for it for a while, might as well as just hope for the best. :-)

Time permitting, you may want to read through the downloadable D700 manual (as a PDF file). That way, when you eventually get it, you'll be able to come up to speed sooner.

It's indeed a very impressive machine with much to offer. I hope you enjoy it.

It's HILARIOUS reading all the folks here who have ALREADY overpaid for the D700 trying to convince others to OVERPAY as well. lol.

It's ALREADY 600-700 bucks cheaper than it was when it first came out. Even with the reduction, however, its overpriced relative to its competition, the 5dMarkII, which has far more features for almost the same price.

Cameras dont get MORE expensive over time, unless you're talking about some sort of collector's item. Jesus. They tank in price. The D200 goes for a 3rd of what it first sold for at best buy. This is just fear mongering by those poor souls who bought the D700 at $3000 and are experiencing "buyers remorse". You wait one year, shoot with what you have, and you will get your D700 at BELOW $2000.
