Hello,

Trying to find out what type of add-on lens I can use to shoot dental photo's with my c-4040. I was looking around on kodak's website and they seem to have some "proprietary" close-up lens that says it's for macro shots of the mouth. I would imagine I should be able to buy any after market macro lens for my olympus?? Any ideas?? Recommendations??

Thanks,

Scott

I wpuld suggest getting a closeup lens set. They cost around $30. There are usually 3 lens included and you can stack them together to acheive various magnification. Just a thought

You could probably use the CLA-1 + a combination of step-up rings to get an MCON-35 or MCON40 or A-Macro, B-Macro lenses which are more expensive than Close up sets but achieve less distortion around the edges. They have more elements but, since you do have a 4 megapixel camera you have plenty of space for cropping.

SCD_COSPRGS,

What are you planning to do with the images? Do you plan to use them in Powerpoint for a professional presentation, publish them on the web, or have them printed? If printed, what are your size requirements?

The reason I ask is I can get good dental closeups with my 2100UZ simply using macro mode. When I crop the image, there are plenty of pixels for good web and good powerpoint presentation. If you are planning to print these at a large size, a macro lens or closeup filter set may be required so you can fill more of the frame with your intended subject.

Here is the link to the few dental closeups I have taken. The original size is my full sized image, so you can download it and see how much I had to crop to achieve this level of pseudomagnification. Click on each image to see the full size. http://www.pbase.com/sandman3/dental

Also understand with your higher megapixel camera than mine, you should expect an even larger sized image, assuming you can focus as close as I using your macro mode. Also understand that this was my first attempt at doing this and I could possibly do better with some practice.

Good luck,

jim

Sandman,

It will mostly be for before and after shots. Like taking photos before whitening someone's teeth and such. If anything were to be printed out I would imagine it wouldn't be bigger than a 5x7. Thanks for the recommendations..

I also bought the C2100 and wanted to use it to take pictures of my bleaching cases. I have not had any cases since, but took some practice pictures using the macro mode and it seems acceptable. Before you go out and buy add on lenses, try taking pictures of your staff's teeth and see if you really need the add on lenses.
