New primes for 4/3

Well, a dedicated fast portrait prime doesn't exist for 4/3. Every other major camera manufacturer makes one. I can't see why Olympus wouldn't release one, as it's a major pitfall for 4/3.

I can't find that rumor. Only a story on rumored Panny lenses for u4/3.

I would certainly welcome primes for either micro or normal.

. . . a wide angle prime that is smaller than their zooms. And a fast normal that doesn't weigh/cost a truck.

I think these three would make many people happy, and compliment cameras like the E620 perfectly.

The 50 F2 can do it all. Portraits to macro. Sharp as a tack.

Nope. I don't want to argue, so I'll leave it at this post only. The 50/2 fails miserably in the field due to being one of the slowest focusing 4/3 lenses to date. I have had models actually complain about how long it took to lock focus (well, one model, but I've seen it in the eyes of others). I've tried two copies on three bodies, with every work around in the book, and with the latest firmware. In a nutshell, the 12-60mm at 60mm is leaps and bounds faster, and even the 14-54mm at 54m is faster.

Yup, it's an incredibly sharp mid-tier lense at a great price. It's fine for macro, but not a focal length I can appreciate for macro. It's a great lense if you don't need it for the above.

doesn't make sense.

just ask them.........

--the m4/3 is supposedly booming and yet NOT ONE interesting single focal length in sight.

I guess Panasonic and Olympus are so busy thinking about their next cameras that they forget to check the focal length that the competition is sellling ( 24 mm , 80 to 90mm , ..)

if that rumor of a 1.4 30mm is true , it will be another example of Panasonic not understanding the potential of delivering best-sellling single focal lenghts
30 mm (60mm om 4/3) is too long for a standard and too short for a portrait lens

Gee , why can't they just at what EVERYONE ELSE is offering
Harold

From what I understand, 2010 will be Olympus' lens year as opposed to the 2009 release of a plethora of bodies.

Like you, I'd really like to see a variety of fast primes, expecially a 42.5 (85mm Equiv) faster than f/2 but I'm not holding my breath.

My guess is that they'll concentrate on wides first and, eventually, release the 100 f/2 Macro (for which I have no need) then concentrate on other focal lengths.

What competition?
Do you mean Canon and Nikon? Pentax?

I must have missed the compact bodies with the changeable lenses the "competition" has offered.

CUTE but hardly invalidating my point. As i stated before , Oly does not have the resources to design new single focal lengths for m4/3 independantly for 4/3 lenses . so it is very likely that any new introduction in 2010 for single focal lenghts for 4/3 would be adapted for m4/3

Yes , Bill that's my understanding too but based on recent developments I am reasonably pessimistic. One of the reasons is because I think that Oly is going to develop more of that pancake stuff so that they can decline the same lens design and calculations to both 4/3 and m 4/3

Yes, agree with you there , that's ONE of the TWO MOST needed single focal length
( the other one being a 12mm -24equivalent one)

well, I have pretty much decided to sell one of my e3 with the 12-60mm and the panasonic 25m to finance a K7 purchase. I am going to do what I thought I would never do which is to juggle with 2 different dslr systems. as much as I hate to do that and as much I dislike the 3;2 ratios cameras ( and you know me well enough to know how much I HATE that ratio) , the single focal lengths available at pentax are just too great to ignore
My first lens for the K7 will be the amazing voigtlander 1.4/58mm Nokton
Harold

Gee , why can't they just at what EVERYONE ELSE is offering.
Then you'd be giving up SSWF, LiveView, in-body IS, small cameras, and, of course, 4/3 altogether.
Tim , I know and I don't like it. that's why for now I am not jumping ship. I am just being unfaithful to oly by sharing my images between Oly and Pentax . so I won't give up on body IS and small cameras but I am going to feel akward without my 4: 3 ratio

on the other hand , I have about 15 shoots booked with great models for the summer and I can't continue to make pictures with the oly zooms

I guess for the next shoots , I will carry the E3 with the 2/50mm for the outdoors shoot and the K7 with the Nokton 58 mm for the indoors shoot

especially for the type of work you do so well.

I'd love to see a 12mm f/2.8 prime in a smaller size but, meanwhile, I'll make do with my 11-22.

As my living isn't dependent on my photography I'm not compelled to look for alternatives but if it were, it may be a different story.

Still, I'd love to see an 85mm (equiv), and fast, from Olympus and that might be a lens for which I'd really want.

As to longer lenses, for me, I don't really care. I think that Olympus has that covered. I'm seeking high quality wide and normal to portrait fast prime lenses.

Well thank you for saying that

Yes it is a great lens and I know how much you like it :)

well I guess Oly would have at least 2 clients :). Just joking they could get a fair number of sales for that one

Me neither, I think that the 2/150mm might be the best tele lens ever but i don't need that reach

If I had a 2.8/12 (24mm) a 2/20mm not pancake ( 40mm) and a 1.7 42mm ( 85mm) that's all the lenses I will ever need
