Found this and the previous thread on Picture Controls very interesting and helpful. Keep up the good work!

I'm glad you found this useful. I'm looking through some D90 videos on the Web (youtube, vimeo...), and some folks have some really cool film look, including grain. I have to figure out how they're doing that.

So, what are the steps in emulating D2X? Is is just the curve? How can you tell when you have it right?

I was under the impression that there was more than just a curve, that maybe there was some little deviation between the color channels. I have dumped the ntc files and it looks like 3 sets of curves that are sampled as line segments.

Why do you suppose we can't just steal the D2X Picture Control from the utility? I tried and the D90 rejects it.

I would love to correspond with you directly. My email is in my profile and on my web page below.

Nothing scientific, mostly trial and error, I'm afraid. I tinker in Picture Control Utility, switching back and forth between my version and the actual D2X mode until I get close enough to call it a night.

You may be right, and that makes sense. I'm not quite getting the right color balance (warmth) in mine, though, as I said, close enough.

Apparently, the D90 does not accept any picture controls that aren't based on its own native set. If you notice, Jake Khuon's controls are based on D90 native modes, and hence, they are loadable.
