The Nikon is discontinued and the last, most sphisticated model of the swivel lens series. A lot of camera for the money. Great macro-abilities. 4x zoom. 3 million pixels. Phil's review is gone but you can read more here:I cannot decided what to buy - thinking about Canon S40 and Nikon

--The replacement for the CP995 is the CP4500 for about $700. Phil just released a review and it looks very good, comparable to the Canon G2, which is about $100 more. The Nikon is discontinued and the last, most sphisticated model ofI cannot decided what to buy - thinking about Canon S40 and Nikon

The Canon has with its 4 million pixels and 3x zoom less controls
but it is such a good looking camera and much easier to take with
you, where you go, with its sliding lens protector and the
retractable lens.
In one line: Nikon 995: Photographers camera, Canon S40: To enjoy
excellent pictures without much fuzz.

Excellent choice. Not too difficult to say, while both are really very attractive cameras. Let the fun begin: Enjoy.dragongirl wrote:

I second the last comment. Best to hold them in your hand and see which one you are more comfortable with.--I cannot decided what to buy - thinking about Canon S40 and Nikon

I suggest buying a CF card, and trying both out at a camera shop
because they are both good. I have the 995, my brother the S40. At
this point there are not a lot of 995's around. Nikon is selling
referbs. I think the Canon is a better point and shoot. The Nikon
seems to have more lag when pressing the shutter button. I feel you
have to know more about cameras and light to get good results from
the Nikon, but that's not putting it down - I own it, and chose it
over a Canon, but I have a Canon too. The Nikon also has lots of
great accessories. The 4500 was just reviewed here. I noticed
shutter lag was still an issue. Its smaller size could make it more
of a direct choice against the S40.
Consider this too. Part of getting good photos is having a camera
with you. Some of my best shots are from my little digital elph.
That's not because it's a better camera, but always with me. S40
would be easier to have with you.
Certainly take in any comments you get in this forum, but make your
decision based on using them because it's a case of 2 great but
different products.
