No autofocus motor in D5000

Folks,

Want to understand a little bit more. New to the world of DSLR. DPreview has mentioned that the D5000 does not have an autofocus motor. Will this problem be resolved if I buy a Sigma 18-250 with HSM. What is the problem in not having an autofocus motor. Is it usually a function of the camera or the lens.
 
Nikon's first generation of autofocus cameras had the motor in the body, connecting to their lenses via a screw via the lens mount. Their later designs use a (faster, quieter) motor in each lens. All this means is that the D5000 will not autofocus with older Nikon lenses.

It's obviously only an issue if you have older Nikon lenses, which I do and therefore I bought a D90!
