Please, split the forum before it is too late

OK, you might say "Good bye, off you go OlyFlyer, who cares if you
go? Who do you think you are?"
I wouldn't say that.
No, but I say that. Life goes on with or without me, you or any other individual member on DPR.
But if everyone else do that and go,
then what?
But how can you speak for 'everyone'?
Can you see the question mark on your screen? Question marks usually mar a question, not a statement. Who is speaking for everyone? I am asking a question.

I'm just curious and trying to understand here,

What make the micro four-thids system NOT a DSLR to you ?
Is it the fact that it doesn't have a mirror ?
The simple answer is yes. By definition, an SLR needs to have a mirror and an optical view finder. Any camera without a mirror to reflect the image into the view finder is NOT a DSLR.

D = Digital
S = Single
L = Lens
R = Reflex

Digital because it is digital and not using film.

Single Lens because it uses the same (single) lens to create a view finder image AND the final image.
Reflex because of the mirror used to reflect the image into the VF.

EVF or LCD panel VF is not DSLR any more then any P&S is. The definition of SLR says nothing about exchangeable lens or anything else, so basically, if you exclude the OVF and the mirror from the requirements of DSLR then ANY camera qualify.

BTW, DSL is your own invention and any digital camera fits into that class, so it is pointless. AFAIK, there are no digital cameras with separate lens for creating the view finder images, so every camera is single lens camera today.

There are plenty of posts here that have nothing to do with Olympus SLRs. I think most if not all people here have an Olympus SLR or are considering one. If I'm thinking about getting a MFT camera, I'm more interested to hear what my peers have to say.

Why not just get a forum **** and nuke every thread that is not Olympus SLR related? Just kidding.

I would not expect everyone following me, I never said everyone will follow me, nor should you ever believe everyone will always agree with you.

Please find another thread, or start your own because your contribution here is limited to picking a new fight I am not interested in and currently all you do is disturbing the discussions with you twisting of words and putting things in my mouth which I have not said.

If you have something to contribute with, fine, but if all you can thing of is this level then I ask you to go somewhere else.

Of course, who am I to tell you what to do...

One of the main reason that I'n against splitting forum is there is no reason right now to predict where the micro four-thrd will end up. Right now, Olympus did have one section on it's website simply because they make a big fuss over this new camera, is it going to be a whole new line ? Are they going to separate more the E-System than they do right now ? When they will have a Pen with EVF, will it still be called a Pen ?

Right now, it makes more sense to keep it in the DSLR as it does not belong more to a compact or DSLR category, and a category for 1 camera might be overkill don't you think ?

Exactly. It is better done in an own section, where all the MFT fans can gather together and share everything there is to share.

No, right now is the right time. Also, I don't mean E-P1 forum, but a Micro FT forum with everything and every one, including other brand, not just Oly.

I just went and tried to find a few 'non-EP1' threads to read and respond to. I got a few but it is rough going. They are outnumbered 20 to 1 by EP1 threads. And more and more keep getting created. The forum is just infested with EP1 threads. And now there are EP2 threads being created! I think I will take a break from here and the chaos until things subside.

This camera isnt a point and shoot, which is what the original poster was implying. A point and shoot is a camera with no manual controls, with no interchangeable lenses, etc. This is clearly Olympus going in a new direction. Thought people want to deny this, the writing is on the wall. The SLR mirror setup's days are numbered. You dont need a mirror in a camera to make it a "pro" level camera. As a matter of fact the mirror box makes SLR's cumbersome and self-limiting in a digital sense. That is a remnant from the days before computers and before the age of digital. I know some of you are in denial but the SLR system has been around a long time and like everything else, one day it will be gone... and I think we're starting to see the first steps towards that end. Its time we embrace the change, as much as the change from film to digital. I for one dont mind it, I never liked optical viewfinders, I have always used the live histogram and manual exposure mode and to be honest, I find optical viewfinders very technologically limiting and, in actuality, the LEAST technological part of a digital camera. Just like your appendix or pinky finger, sooner or later it has got to go!

You're quite right. The status quo is the E-P1 being discussed both in the DSLR forum and the non-DSLR forum, because people don't know where to look. A seperate category would definitely be appropriate.

NOW thats for point and shoot camera. Pardon the language, but do you know what kind of BS passes for compact cameras these days? As far as Im concerned, the great compact cameras died with the C8080 and C7070... those were the last of the greats, chock full of features that many dslr dont even have. My opinion still stands, you dont need a mirror or an OVF to make a professional camera, and in the digital age, their days are numbered. A digital camera is more like a computer (actually it IS a computer) than it is like the SLR's of old. That design has stayed unchanged for almost a century-- dont you think its time for a revolution?
