best non canon flash for the 5d Mark II

Silverback

I am looking for flashpower and possibly wireless connectivity. Price matters also.

If so, I suggest you forget the Nissin.
Sunpak PZ42X will suit you better.
Unlike Canon speedlite, the Sunpak works with various triggers,
including the cheap one.
Cheap optical slave unit will trigger the Sunpak but not the Nissin or 580 EX.
Also I have two cheap radio trigger, cactus like.
Both could trigger the Sunpak but only one works with 580 EX or Nissin.

Nissin COULD NOT shot unless it's attached on your camera's hot shoe.

As I said in my previous post,
Sunpak & Nissin has similar power (Nissin slightly...just lightly greater),
similar recycle time.

How much is a flash trigger and how is it hooked up? Also, at what angle can you use an off camera wireless flash from the camera\distance from camera?

The cheapest I think it's optical slave unit, around US $10.
Just attach it like on top your camera. It has a hotshoe.
Just make sure your flash reach the sensor unit.
You could bounce etc.
You need atleast 2 flashes for this set up.
One is on top your camera, and the second is attached on the slave unit.
If you choose this set up, then you could use NISSIN Di622 on top your camera,
while another flash (sunpak, or else) on the slave unit.

Cheap radio triggers cost more than optical slave unit.
Around $40.
If you use a radio trigger, you could use only one flash, which on the receiver.
But some of them are unreliable and have different working distance.

iI bought the sunpak pz 42x for my canon 5d mark II and I can only get it to flash in manual mode? My camera has firmware 1.10 installed.
