Hey gang, made it back from a week or so away at various places. Went up to my favorite vacation destination canoeing (Quetico Provincial Park, Canada) and was very excited to be bringing my 707 up with me for the first time. I was all set.... new filters.. f1000... new camera bag... new tripod... new digital wallet! I was ready! BUT DANG! We're on the service road an hour from our vehicles when I realized I forgot the chord for my digital wallet!!!! I was DEVASTATED! Now I only had 2 128 meg sticks to last me 5 days! AARGH! I debated going back, but it would have meant another $100, but worse, a 2 hour later start and it would have made people wait. I decided to buck up, and just be more judicious with my photos. I started going with standard mode, but was uncomfortable with that and went to 3 mp mode so I could maximize my storage capability. I was able to squeak out about 170 shots, and frequently went through and had to delete some less desirables.

The saddest epiphany came about an hour after we left the beautiful waters. I'm digging through my camera bag getting prepared to charge my batteries at the outfitters when I realized, "What did I need a chord to connect the digital wallet to my camera for? I have the scsi memory card adapter that slides into the digital wallet!" DUH! I had what I needed the whole time!!! How could I not have realized that sometime during the trip? Oh well, I'm an idiot. So, instead of having 1,000 pics, I have 170. I'll play with my new toys later, I guess.

In the meantime, here are a few from my trip, with the whole gallery being here... this was one of the most beautiful lakes I've been on up there.

Beautiful pictures! Thinking you're short on memory may not be such a bad thing if you take shots like that back home.

Welcome home Jim
Sorry to hear about the memory issue! Look at it this way - less editing!

My first trip with the 707 was to the carribean. We took all photos at 3 MP and saved everything on the MS and on the laptop for double protection! Last trip through the rockies I came away with what I thought was an astronomical amount of > 650 photos. However Lisa Young and others have let me know they've taken 1000's over a week. I couldn't begin to think of "wading through" them all, and picking the best.

You did a wonderful job with what you had.
You've probably even got "eligible" panoramas for the challenge!

Those are very nice photos. Maybe the fact that you thought you had a limited number of shots, you took better aim. Whatever the case, you have some excellent photos.

What harm done?

NONE... Thank you for for sharing your exceptionally beautiful photography. You are CERTAINLY no idiot to me...

Thanks again,

Bernd

Welcome back Jim - you've got some winners here! All evoke a feeling of serenity, you must be well rested from your trip. Sorry about your limited shooting though, but I'm sure the ones you brought back are worth every penny.

Jim,
Great shots!
What measures did you take to ensure your camera was dry?
I guess you took it on the canoe with you by your shots.
Great work!
GB

When you look at pictures like that, you know with the 707's possibilites "It's the photographer, stupid" Great, great work.

Jim, Jim, Jim, Jim. You are way to hard on yourself. With pictures like that, you don't need a lot of storage. If you wanted more fantastic photos, you now have an excuse to go back!!

Like one poster said, all of the photos envoke a feeling of serenity. Maybe someday I could take photos like that? I am going ot Tahiti in Sept., so I wish that I could take photos like that now....hehe. Maybe once I learn composition and exposure, then I will have an excuse to go back too.

Jim, as always, your photos are simply breath taking. I wouldn't be discouraged about the lack of storage because you simply don't need it!!!

Shutter,

Beautiful photos Jim. And truly a beautiful place! Some people have what they call "pre-senior moments" like I do sometimes. But your photos came out wonderful anyway.

Beeeaaaauuuuutiful pictures Jim!!!

I like the last one a lot - the clarity and color rivals any DSLR cameras out there!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the digital wallet. You have some really nice photos here. I love the colors in the first shot, the blues and reds look great. The b/w works well with these as well. I would say my favorite is the one of the leaf, just something about that one. Great shots.

Beautiful pictures. You made great use of your 2 memory stick and you won't have to spend the next 5 weeks editing photos.

Hi Ann,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, you're correct - much less editing! Which is good, but I enjoy it. And really, 3mp is fine for most shots, but its still frustrating to not use the full capacity of the camera.

The biggest disappointment was that I had all this new equipment I wanted to experiment with but didn't really have the luxury now. I had planned on taking many many panos, but I didn't take any because they shoot at least 3 shots for every one photo!

Thanks for coming along on my trip!

Jim

Leeves,

Thanks for taking the time to comment! You're right, I really was more selective. I found myself walking around "looking" a lot more rather than "shoot first look later". I also spent a lot of time reviewing pics in the camera and deleting those that I didn't like as much.

Thanks for you nice comments!

Jim

Thanks Faye,

As always, I love hearing from you. It was very serene, but I'm not sure about the well rested part! It takes me two days to unwind, and then the other two days just weren't enough. Then on the last day we had to canoe out in the rain, pack up, drive 8 hours home, and then unpack again. I think I'm more tired now!!! lol

Thanks again!
