I can't seem to find info regarding the above. Index for 'battery' on pages 11 and 114 doesn't say anything about how it is displayed in the menu/info.

I see a green battery check indicator at times (when I first turn the camera on) but it disappears after a few seconds on the screen.

Question, how do you tell the life of the battery (without having to turn off and on the camera each time)? How do you get that green battery check icon to show up on demand? Is it just two indicators ie "there's battery, keep using" and "you better charge it now".

And when its "you better charge it now", how much power do I have left roughly ... 25%? 10%?

The way battery life is reported seems a little unconventional and the manual is not 'quite' helpful.

Thanks.

There is no such gauge in Olympus cameras. Li-on and nimh batteries tend to give out a constant current until they are nearly deplated, unlike alkaline batteries that use would deliver steadily less energy and a gauge could measure how much current was delivered. Other cameras might have a smart control where the Li-on/nimh battery can communicate more information to the camera, but Olympus didn't seem to design in that capability. Sorry.

at least it confirms that I'm not missing something in the manual (which can be improved). I've bought 2 extra batteries just to be sure I don't get caught with a sudden shutdown.
Cheers!

Hey guys,

Long time since the last post, but I have the same issue with my E-420 at the moment. Any conclusion? Any news? Did the camera worked ok during this time? Kindly advise.
