Well my 3 year old F10 fell into a kiddie pool. It was removed quickly and I let it try out for a week. Thankfully the memory card is good and I got the pictures off of it. The camera will turn on and take pictures put they don't look good anymore. The pictures have lines in them. Also the lens cover will not close all the way anymore when the camera is off. There appears to be a tiny scratch on the lens also. Not sure if that was already there before or not.

The lens cover doesn't bother me much, however the pictures quality does. Will letting it dry out long do any good, or is it dead? If it is dead, should I just get another F10 or is there a newer camera like it that doesn't cost more than $80 (refurbished F10 on ebay is $80). Would like for the camera to use XD memory since I have a 1gig card that seems to be working after its bath.

You can buy a refurbished or second hand Finepix F40fd on eBay for around that price or less. It compares well against the F10 and supports xD cards as well as SD cards and SDHC cards (after a firmware update). It was also sold under the name Finepix F45fd.

--If you are happy with the F10 . Get another. BUT the F40fd & F47fd are almost fool proof. They are much easier to use. Have much better color & exposure.

I have an F10 20 40 & 47. The F47fd (9m) is by far the best one & the noise belive it or not is about the same. But the f20 is the fastest.

I just got the F10 again on ebay for 69.00 refurb free shipping. That is just plain ridiculous. Cause it takes better pictures that most of todays cameras.

A Finepix F11 would be preferable to an F10. It has a better LCD and manual controls (but may need the firmware update for review mode) than the F10. Not many were sold in North America so few are available.

I'd believe your F47 is better than your F40 but I don't think that's the usual experience

I forgot about the f11. I bought one on ebay about a year ago. It was great. The only thing That drove me crazy was the fact that setting the ISO in "m" stayed the same in "a". The F10 does the same thing. Also the shutter mode. Had a bad handicap. The flash was not as bright. Ex. If you took a pic in auto 1/60th vs. 1/30th in shutter mode. The exposure was darker with 1/30th ?. That to me made the extra features not as good. Again the newer f40 & 47 are way easier to use with a better flash system. better color etc... not to mention a mode dial.

So the F40 and F47 both take a better picture than the F10? We primary take indoor shots of our kids, so low light does come into play some. We also just set it to auto and don't really use any manual settings. What is the main difference between the F40 and F47?

The F47fd was a rereleased version of the F40fd with a 9.0 megapixel sensor instead of an 8.3 megapixel sensor.

The extra 0.7 megapixels doesn't make much difference. The main functional difference between the two is the very different colour they produce. See these links to compare. I think the F40 / 45fd is better.

If you're in N. America I don't know if you'd be able to find an F47fd if you wanted as they were mostly sold in Europe and were never very common. Some F40fds were also sold under the name F45fd so also search for that on eBay.

The Tips & Tricks thread for the F40fd is here:

Maybe the lines are due to water residue on the sensor... if you're about to scrap it anyway, try taking the case off, and use a sensor cleaning kit to wipe it off... maybe it'll be good as new if the zoom mechanisms still work

Good idea, I will try that.

Also I know it ain't a Fuji, but how about a Sony Cybershot DSC-W120. My parents may sale me theirs for a good price.

Sensor cleaning has to be done right or else it'll make the situation worse so be careful with that.

It's image quality isn't as good as the F40fd's as its sensor is almost one half smaller, its LCD is poor and it doesn't take SD or xD cards. But it does have a wider lens and longer zoom.
