Some questions about my Fuji S602Z

I recently bought a FUJI S602Z as my 1st digital camera. I bought this on the strength of a number of magazine reviews and also it seems to be a feature rich camera. However I have some questions with the camera and would welcome so experinced feedback from experience readers of this forum.

The camera is getting mixed reviews. In the UK press it seems to be loved. By contrast most internet sites rate it well below the Canon G2 for example.

I love the majority of pictures I am taking but I have notice that sometimes I get white spots.

Sometimes when my camera powers down. It does not re-start until I switch off then on again.

Hi!

Some sites/magazines (Popular Photography, for one) rate the S602Z a notch above the G2; most of the others however, including dpreview, rate it a notch below the G2.

So depending on the features you need, one is better than the other.

What white spots? Please elaborate. I am one of the lucky ones who do not have one single problem. No spots, hot or dead pixels, no torn pieces, no lost settings, no nothing except wonderful pictures.

The S602Z powers off automatically after a set time. You do have to turn the switch to reactivate it. It's in the manual.

Both are excellent cameras. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Different people (and different reviewers) will have different opinions depending on personal preference and on the applicaiton for which the camera is to be used.

You'll have to elaborate, or better, post an example. I'm not at all sure what you mean by "white spots".

As a battery saving measure, the 602 will shut down its displays after a short period of inactivity. However, the camera is still "ON", and pressing any button will bring it back to life.

After a longer period of inactivity, it will turn itself completely off. The lens will retract. To bring it back after this occurs, you'll need to turn the power switch off and back on.

OKay for starters I have three shots (two of the same subject). I have circled arround the areas concerned. It may be that these observations are normal (eg. caused by reflections or something), please forgive my ignorance as I am completely new to digital photography.

Comments/Advice very welcomed.

Are you sure those weren't really there? Like a snail or whatever?

Try a shot with the lens cap on. Set it to shutter priority somewhere above 1 second. See if the spots are still there

The manual advises that you are able to "wake up the camera" by pressing ANY of the buttons on the camera. Try that, it "woiks."

Also if you not pleased with the EVF image adjust the LCD. See your manual...

It all looks normal to me. I'm pretty sure that the white areas captured by the camera were all there in "real life" as well.

Hi Marinos,

The camera goes into a sleep mode (i.e. the display shuts down to conserve battery power) if you do not touch any buttons on the camera for 30 seconds. To wake it up, press the shutter button half way down. If you don't touch any buttons for 2 minutes (there is an option in the Set-up menu which allows you to set the length of time to 5 minutes) the camera will shut off. You have to turn the power switch off and on again to wake it up. In the english manual see page 73, "AUTO POWER OFF SETTING."

Bishop
