Hi all,

Here are some of my latest macro shots. Enjoy!

Taken with S602, Vivitar 285HV and +4 close-up filters.

Great pics.

You must have really scared that spider though, looking at the puddle underneath it. ;)

Could you post some more info on how you took these, like exif info, flash use, how you set the scene up, PS processing, etc. I'm trying to improve my macro-skills, thanks.
Again, very nice pics.

Hello again Hector.

You are fantastic, man! These pictures could be on National Geographic, as far as I am concerned! Excellent job!

Best Regards.

Hector

These are beautifully done. They have everything you could want - clarity and beautiful color. I am especially impressed with your backgrounds. Can you please share how you achieved the background effects.

Hi Hector

As I remember saying once before, your macros are truly superb! No different this time. Colourful, crisp and beautifully ...erm....what's the word (I'm having a sieve-brain day) ....put together, set-up, placed......arghhh!

I alsosreem to remember saying, they also might be enough to tempt me to go for the 602 after all.
Keep them coming please!

Hey these are great. I particularly like the two below. That bee is incredible and the background blurred so well. Nice job. I am still having a little bit of trouble with my close up lenses so it is nice to see great shots taken with them attached.

Hi LoudNL,

Thank you! Haha, thats a funny one! I didn't thought of that!

Ok, here's a sample of the EXIF info. Applies to all the pics posted, except for the aperture and shutter speed value, which are already indicated on the pic:

Camera Model: FinePix S602 ZOOM
Firmware: Digital Camera FinePix S602 ZOOM Ver1.00
Shutter speed: 1/250 sec
Aperture: 10.1
Exposure mode: Manual
Flash: Auto
Metering mode: Multi-segment
ISO: 160
Focal length: 37.5 mm
Macro focus: Off
Image size: 2048 x 1536
Image quality: FINE
White balance: Custom
Saturation: Normal
Sharpness: Normal

Flash used is Vivitar 285HV, with head tilted 45-60 degrees. I'm also using a bounce card wrapped with crumpled aluminium foil. Close-up filters used are HOYA 55mm +4 Close-up filter.

No cropping was done. Only convert to 3:2 format and then some Unsharp Mask in Photoshop.

Hope the above helps!

Cheers
Hector

Hi Liza,

Thank you for your wonderful comments! Yes, background is indeed important. Not to worry, so long as you're doing close-up using close-up filters or macro lens, the background will be nicely blurred. But of course, you must find a good background to blur in the first place. ;)

Hi Mark,

Thanks! Very encouraging comments!

This time round, instead of using the Sto-fen omni-bounce with my Vivitar, I'm using a DIY bounce card (wrapped in aluminium foil). Works great too, and the flash is less harsh. However, it is very bulk and shiny. Scared quite a lot of my potential 'models' away. :(

cheers
Hector
Hi Antena, I simply love your macro's (also the ones before), sharp
as a needle and a beautiful lighting too.

Did you use any sort of bouncer with that Vivitar?

Hello Hector.

Yes, I did, and I am sorry I never replied to you. I have been very busy, and forgot to write you. Thanks a lot for all the info.

Seriously, man, you are not far from professionals, actually, you are there. I don't think I am exagerating when I say some of these pics could be in famous magazines, they are really top notch.

Best Regards.
You flatter me too much! Thank you! I'm still far from that
professional standard. Btw, did you receive my reply to your email
the other time?

Those pics are some of the best macro shots I've seen.

Have you considered submitting to megapixel.net or photo of the day sites ?

I was extremely proud when a macro of mine made it onto last months gallery at megapixel.net.
