Bertie, here are a couple of slide conversion, the Beijin Forbidden City is a older slide and fade a bit. The other one with the Hong Kong Harbour is a better one.

As you can see my set up did not allow me to copied the whole slide into a full frame. With the 880, after cropping the average size of the digital file is 2.6 to 3 meg, with the 7590 file size is about 2 to 2.5 meg. However I'm still quite satisfied with the results.

Forbidden City:

After cropping with some degree of PP:

Hong Kong Harbour:

I have not had a change to try some of the commercial neg/slide convertor, not sure how good is my DIY thing compare to the commercial one.

Hope you'll find it useful. And happy converting when you start your project.

Chiue, many thanks for the example. Have you tried a close-up lens as well, to try to get more of a full frame?

No, I have not tried that. A very good suggestion that worth a try.

Thanks very much, chiue for your kindness and encouragement. If I can get results even approaching yours I'll be more than happy.

I'm sure that my Nikon D3 with its Nikkor 200mm D ED-IF Micro which will reproduce 1:1 with a 2" standoff will be technically competent enough. That plot does a fine job but I can't post any examples. Anyway, your hard work deserves the very best.

Cheers,

Bertie.

Your Nikon D3 with the Nikkor lens should do a great job.

Chiue, for interest, I carried out a rough, hand-held test with my P880 and a set of close-up lenses. Three lenses, of 1, 2, and 4 dioptres, were combined to give from 1 to 7 dioptres respectively. With the camera lens set at 140 mm zoom, with the lenses singly or combined to give 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 dioptres respectively, it focused on the following subject widths: 78, 69, 60, 52, 45, 40, and 36 mm. So it would appear that a 7 dioptre combination would be required to include a 24 x 36 mm colour slide.

The 52 mm lenses were mounted directly on the camera's lens, at a distance of about 200 mm from the front lens.

Wow, what details information. Thanks very much. I'll keep that information for my references.

Now, I will put my conversion project on hold, since I don't currently have any close up lens. I would thinks Bertie will benefit from this too.

Whoops! The last sentence in my previous post should have read:

I did understand what you meant in the first thread.

Owl here, Hey Bertie ...Whats up?

I have done P880 35mm slide copy too with similar results as Chiue. My 6x9 slides are easy to do as they are 56x84mm in size!. This thread has got me thinking and after looking around I think the B&W 52mm 5 power for $25(B&H) would be a good compromise using just ONE close-up lens from a top shelf quality filter maker and then a small crop.

I usually set my lens at 50 to 70mm for least distortion and closest focus in Macro. There maybe sharper results by avoiding having focus ring maxed out on highest Mag too or using the Macro mode at all. This is my choice now that I have looked, and I will post results if I get one.
