You said that you were going to finish your Sony S70 report before the end of the week. I checked on Friday nothing, saturday and Sunday nothing, and now on Monday morning in Asia, nothing.

You let me down. I am still trying to decide on whether to buy the Sony S70 or the Olympus 3030. Been looking forward to YOUR S70 report for a long time now. Hope you didn't run into any major problems with your review and that everything is alright. Perhaps it has been raining all last week in London and no perfect days for taking photos.

Love your site Phil, but you could keep your word on this one and hundreds of thousands of your readers saw that. Anyway, I forgive that but I couldn't let you get away with it without pointing it out to those that might have forgotten your goal of finishing your S70 by weeks end.

Regards,
Michael

Unlike some so-called reviews which are nothing more than a tour of camera features, Phil actually uses the cameras that he reviews for a while so that he can comment on the feel, and so that he can get to know the camera to get the most out of it. I would rather that he took the time to get a good feel for the camera rather than rushing a review to press. IMHO. Bryan

Ditto. Besides, the man has to sleep SOMETIME. Keep up the always
excellent and thorough work, Phil, at your own pace.

Michael,

I'm sorry you feel this way, first of all I'd better clarify that I'm in the UK now so "Monday in Asia" has no significance.

Secondly I realise I've missed my target of releasing the review on Friday, for several reasons not least of which are personal and not to be discussed here. I have a "real life" which sometimes impacts on my ability to write what are very thorough and time consuming reviews. That said the review should be up either today or tomorrow.

Dear Phil,

Please accept my apologies for prodding you to work harder. It is none of my business, I am not your boss, just an avid fan that visits your website at least twice a day. Glad you have a real life instead no life at all except your web business.

Best Regards,
Michael

I'll take the risk of offending other reviewers. IMHO - Phil write the BEST camera reviews I have seen; not even a close second place to his work. Not only are the reviews excellent, Phil has the guts to try to rate the cameras in the "Conclusion" section. I'm more than happy to give Phil the opportunity of doing the job right!

Frances.
I've seen your two line-three line posts re: the 990. I'm sure you have a Nikon
flag waving outside your front door Frances. By 'better' do you mean it looks
better? it feels better? it takes better pics?

Read the Nikon posts and find how many problems this camera has. I'll take a little less in the S-70 (that takes the same or better pictures than the 990)
than deal with the countless problems that are constantly talked about in the
990 forum.
The S-70 is a trouble-free (read money and time well spent)
digi-cam that takes excellent pictures.
Sell me on something else, Frances, your Aloha's are getting boring.

I think it's much fairer to say each camera has its strengths and each its weaknesses. Th canon is a superb compact camera, whereas the 990 gets closer to having many of the characteristics of an SLR and compact camera e.g. interchangeable lenses. Probably if I'd got the money I would own both a 990 and S-70 but as I don't I make do with the 950 I bought last century ;) Michael

Phil...

I see no need for apology to this guy because you did not meet his "personal timetable." Your reviews are hands-down the best on the web. I'd rather wait for quality than to have something slapped together (as happens on many other sites.)

If I can be picky... I'd like to see photos included in the samples which use the camera's internal flash (perhaps these are here and I don't see them). Ditto for macro shots, etc. All samples attached to a review should have a: Flash shot, low-light shot, max-macro shot, max-telephoto shot, action shot, high-contrast shot. Your photos are always very pretty and you make the poorest cameras look good, but not always do I see all functions of a given camera tested. I don't advocate the "always shoot the same photo test" as is done on other sites -- (that gets boring), but as was the case with the infamous S-10 flash problems (color cast / motion blur), it would be good to see these shortcomings as a potential buyer.

Thanks for all you do...

Phil -

Thanks very much for the review of the S70. Though it is not my camera of choice, I was very interested in seeing what you'd have to say about it.

While I didn't agree 100% with every play-by-play opinion you had of the camera (though I'll say more like 93% ), I know that the review came in as timely fashion as you were able to provide it. I know that you probably don't get quite enough credit for the work you put into these.

So I'd like to thank you for the work you do with the site. All the best to ya.
