Zeiss ZF 28/f2 vs. 35/f2 - Please help me decide

It does NOT actually matter whether you get the 28 or 35 .....
because I am pretty sure that you will eventually get BOTH !!!
You are the second one who predicts that eventually I will get both. I won't argue against it :). But this will propably have to wait until I go fullframe.
I have a 24-70 but once I got my 35/2 some weeks ago, that ZF 35 is
now welded onto my D3. I am planning to get a ZF100 soon after I
have saved up enough $$$.
I can recommend the 100/f2 highly. It's perfect for macro, tight portraits and landscape shooting. Go for it!
In advance, enjoy.

I have my new 35mm ZF paired with the 14-24mm. I think that's the
best possible combination used on D300/D700 through 35mm.
That's what I have. That said, I keep wanting a Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AIS to fill the gap. And I liked it so much on film that I'm hoping it is a fine performer on FX. HAven't seen anyone really put it to the test anywhere, though.

Hi David,

Hope u can help me with a question about the 28mm. How close does it focus? as in the minimum focusing distance? I've read user reviews that the 25mm focuses closer than the reporter 7 inches, I'm hoping that the 28mm is able to focus closer than the reporter 22cm in the specs sheet.

Would really appreciate it if you, or anyone, can shed some light on this.

Markus, I use the 50mm makro on a d700 and have no problems focusing, even in a dimly lit room, i don't really have problems, when it gets too dark i rely on the green focus dot. It is one amazing sharp lens!

Funny that i bought a 28mm 2.8 AIS about 2 weeks before i got the 35mm ZF last month.

It's nice, but i don't see myself using it unless i want to create a dynamic scene with something extremely close in the foreground. I'll prob wind up selling it.

If you have FX and DX, the 2 former lenses are a formidable pair for all wide situations on either camera.

I haven't done an exact measurement on the focusing distance of each lens but I can tell you that the 25 focuses at a closer distance than the 28. To figure out the exact focusing distance wether its 22, 21 or 20 cm needs a precision setup which means time and patience which I have neither one now, and does that 10-20mm make that much of a difference to you? My feeling is that the Zeiss figures are correct, I just see any reason that they wouldn't be, but there could be some sample variation in the production.
