Flash Diffuser

Not to beat a dead horse, but check out Neil van Niekerk blog from 25 February 2009. He's giving his impression on several popular flash diffusers:

The way he and I think is uncanny. I was using his technique at an event, and quickly became very self conscioius about "foofing" the others around me. His solution - The Black Foamie Thing(tm) - is exactly what was going through my mind. In fact, I was even thinking about using my Demb Flash Diffuser as a gobo!

Warmest regards,

--This is really good stuff, but what is the difference between the black one used here and the white BBC? Maybe I missed something.

Thanks

is not a diffuser or a bouncer at all.

It is blocking the light from going toward the subject and allowing the light to go upward and to one side to make it directional.

It is a light blocker. The allows the light to be all send in a direction other than right at the subject.

You better be close and use a high ISO and a large aperture.
A large group or a distance shot will not have enought light.

In all the examples is see of people subjects in this forum they are not wearing eyeglasses when a flash is used. I occasionally take images (snap shots) of people (not for professional purposes) and end up with flash glare on eyeglass frames, the glass itself and even their teeth. This happens whether I bounce flash, backflash, reduce flash etc. In most cases the people will not remove their glasses. I tried the Sto-Fen and the "Better Bounce Card" with the Nikon SB-600.

How ya doing big guy.
Very busy over here since Valentines Day and everyone getting engaged.

Still getting lots of business, they're just cutting back on extra albums and extra portraits.

Always great to see your name.

Take care.

OH by the way, that is the model I use.
Flip-it Pro with the diffuser. That's why I get no glare!!

Keep it a secret, don't let my competition find out!!!

Sam, if you dont mind, what diffuser type do you use, where is it pointed and what are typical settings? I have not been able to get around the glare problem. Fortunately I take very few images using flash. That may be part of the problem. Not much experimantation.

Sam, I e-mailed Joe Demb with the same question to see what solution he may have using his diffuser. His response was "sorry, there is no solution to bright reflecting surfaces. You will have to live with it".
Thanks Joe S
