Hi all,

On our recent camping trip to Lake Tahoe, we also visited Virginia City, Nevada. Mainly a tourist attraction, this town was at the hub of activity in the area during the mid 1800's gold and silver rush. We visited a grand old church, St. Marys in the Mountains, built during the rush period.

While we were inside the church and I was busy "clicking away" at the beautiful and very large stained glass windows, I looked over and saw my wife and daughter praying, bathed in very pretty afternoon light and colors. (Thought about trying to reduce the pinks/reds, but this is how the scene looked) I was able to take this photo without disturbing them, as my daughter wanted to say a prayer for "Carmen" her cockatiel, who had "gone to heaven" a few days before our vacation. She also wanted "god to help Carmen's mate "Mozart" not be too sad at home".
I am also including a shot of the church's largest window. Curt

I am speechless..... Suddenly, with just one image, the camera brand became totally irrelevant. Thanks, Jim N'AZ
Curt A,

A priceless image! What a treasure! Worth more than the price of
all of your camera equipment!

As I was just stating in Sandman's thread, these are the images that get to a much deeper purpose of photography. An image can be beautiful and stand on its own merit as art and our senses can be dazzled. But an image that can tell or unlock a story, that image has a much greater and long lasting impact. Both of these images are wonderful. -- LC

Wow! thanks for the incredibly kind and flattering comments. Very much appreciated. Sometimes I get lucky in photography just as I did in being given the gift of my family. Curt

Hi El-See,

Thanks for the profound and beautiful comments. Sometimes as you say, photography can be much more than just snapping photos. This one I think will be a keepsake for us for a long time. Curt

Curt,
The image of your wife and daughter is one of the most powerful

It's always nice to hear the story behind why a person took a picture. Love the pictures.

Wonderful story for an equally wonderful shot . That's what
photography's all about . Very moving ! The window shot
is beautiful , but it just doesn't mean much after that first one
does it ?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for taking the time to post such great and very appreciated comments. sometimes it's fun to hear the story behind the photo, but as they say a picture is worth a...... well you get the point! just believe that a few words helps the picture MAKE taht point sometimes. As to the window, well, thought I'd include it to prove that my camera's white balance on the portrait wasn't all screwed up! :-) Curt

Hi Rich,

Thanks so much for the VERY kind comments. Sometimes I think it's important to share the "from the heart" stuff, as we seem to be drifting away from even recognizing that softer moments in life are what make it joyous. Curt
Hi Curt!
Both of these are just fantastic. You have a priceless capture
that you need to protect. What a great story to go with it too!

Thanks for being bold enough to share this private moment in your
life.

Curt -

Extraordinary photos brought to life with your comments. With pictures such as the one of your wife and daughter, it matters not what others think of the 'quality'... these photos are always ^^^ in my opinion. Perfection.

The stained glass is so gorgeous...you captured it magnificently!
