Hi,
Because Sigma 28-70/2.8-4 is quite rarely seen lens here in forum, I
thought it would be useful show couple of test samples and some real life samples with it.
I bought this small lens, because I wanted something small and handy, but not so big size lens in my all-around camera bag. My trusty nikkor 35-70/2.8 is too big for that purpose and nikkor 35-70/3.3-4.5 too low quality wide open (IQ and I don't like its bokeh).
Sigma 28-70/2.8-4 is indeed a small lens...
...And it has quite simple optical construction...
But although it's simple lens it produces quite interesting and simple bokeh also, I think - a way better than example my nikkor 16-85VR, what comes to bokeh.
It's not very sharp lens (not bad though), but sharpnes is not always everything as we know ;-D
If you are interested, here are more my bokeh testing with it:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=31678553
And one example what I mean:
50mm...(crops)
Anyway - here are some my 'real life' shots with Sigma 28-70/2.8-4...
crop:
...and as for comparison:
nikkor 16-85VR - 70mm, f/5.6:

crop:
...Some close-ups..
...works also pretty nicely with ext.tube...

cheers,
Ari
