VEISHEA is an annual week long celebration held each spring on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I took some photos of the parade and some random pics. Please C&C. Are these oversaturated ?

They look great, I enjoyed them.

OK, not so purely a hobby.

I think they look very good to my eye. But, some people may find the flesh tones a bit overcooked. It's all a matter of taste and this is art after all regardless of what some say. All art is an expression of the artists vision, unconscious material and method. Keep doing it the way YOU like!

Good pics, but over saturated.

If you look carefully at the over saturated colors of some of the fabrics, for instance - this causes an unrealistic look and a loss of detail in the over saturated part of the image. ... that is, unless this is the look that you were going for?

They look fine to me. But I personally prefer a bit over saturation. so don't take my word for it.

One thing. I think some will find the skin tones a bit more reddish than the normal. other than that, they are fine

Yes they do IMHO, all but the last one. What makes it worse is that it looks like it was a grey dull day. The over-satureated colours therefore look out of place. The green tractor is an example. Cheers, Peter

Thanks all for you opinions.......

It was a gloomy day, so I (over)saturated the pics to get vivid pics of the parade :)

Hi! Yes i think they do. Too much colour can do a Photo a dis service rather than compliment it. I see many Photos being killed with toooooo much Colour. Even HDR's are often drowned out with a load of over kill.

I like the HOG Rider. Was one myself here in Adelaide. Bailed out. Too many thought they where too special because they owned a Harley. Lol"
Cheers" Ray

To me they look just tad over. Actually, I guess you had WB set to cludy(?) so the colours are a bit warm. On my D80 on overcast day I learnt to use 5700K to prevent warm cast like this - often resulting in hot colours...

cheers

Yes, by about 20%

I would desaturate it a bit, and play around with WB as well, since some of them are too warm for my taste.

Canon, you can... Nikon, unique... :)

Yes, they are, but in this case (grey day) the oversaturation looks pretty good to me, enjoyable shots.

the only one that really looks oversaturated is the tractor... I did not check, but you might want to look at the green channel to check if it is blown out.
To me they are definitely saturated, and nicely contrasty.

Grey day, overcast and chilly! A bit of saturation puts some life into the colors when the lights dull! A bit much on the greens like the tractor and grass in parts but it depends on the scene and look you are trying to capture. Its in the eye of the photographer, you may have achieved what you want, technically a bit over saturated.
