It might seem obvious to some but after 1 hr searching the manual to my 602 zoom acquired 2 days ago i can't find how to set the DSCF file names to continous rather than repeat..ie the camera starts at 000001 etc every time I downlaod and wipe the card. I run the risk of over writing previously saved files..I use CF and an external reader which is much quicker then the supplied USB. Any help appreciated

This is on the 4900, but - with the camera set to take photos, turn the setting dial to 'SET' and scroll through to FRAME NO. You can choose either CONT or RENEW. Alternatively, using software like ACDSee allows you to preview and rename downloaded images that share a name/ID with existing pictures on your HD. Hope this helps.

If I remember reading correctly, you cannot do this........this was a change from the way my 6900 works (and definitely not an improvement), so I think you are stuck with the resetting of the file numbers. The only workaround I remember reading about was to use something like the FinePix viewer to move and renumber your images.

Mark,

There is no facility on the 602 for continuous file naming, below is a link that will allow you to download a program written by Peter Ang that renames each file.

I've used it for about a month now, an excellent program.

You will also have to download Visual Basic (r) 6 Runtime Files from the Microsoft Website to operate, quite straight forward.

Give it a try.

Kind regards,

Mark,

I've just had a look at your location and realised that were no more than 3 miles away from each other, I'm in Briton Ferry.

I'ts a small World.

to all who replied thanks..I notice on page 5 of this review is a similar topic.Fancy a £550 camera having this omission..mind you I am used to using Ulead Explorer and its easy to rename as many or few pics in a folder in one quick go..so I'll just have to do that each time..

Bob.. Britton Ferry..not far from Cimla road in Neath. Have you ever been to the Health Centre there..colleagues of mine work there..I drive past it now and then on my way to the dump!

I don't have the 602, but someone posted a while ago on this. If you delete all but the last picture taken, the numbering sequence will start from there. Don't know if that helps or not, but there it is...

If the purpose of conituing number of the images is to give unique names to the files you download, then this is done through FinePixViewer, the software coming with your camera. There is a feature called Automatic Rename. It would let you rename the file name when you download your files. There are several choices of renaming your files. One way which will make sure they get unique name is renaming your file with YYMMDD_HHMMSS, i.e. day and time the file is created.
