SX10 and wild birds photography

real nice shots, have taken many like it at full zoom and hand held with great results. Mostly use the P mode but sometimes manual for action. Like the MF but only when they sit still for awhile. Glad to see someone else loves working with a great camera. Good luck and keep snappin'

While I'm using extensively the SX10 I'm aware to several drawbacks of it. I got it, though, for the long zoom, articulated screen and hotshoe.

I find its human engineering very iffy, and the highlight clipping is pretty bad.

Like all canons you have to set exposure at -1/3 to get good pictures.
Also the 450D have this problem, while nikon underexpose, canon easely overexpose.

The fringing is also coused by overexposed pictures.

And the SX10 is far better than most Superzooms for long end IQ and lack of clipping / fringing , you really don't want to see the mess a Pan FZ7 or Oly SP550UZ puts out and the new SP590 with its even longer lens is poor too, check the samples.......

I total agree, the SX10 is by far the best long zoom.

Panasonic is more of an compromie no CA but verry distructed pictures.

alot off noise reduction, and the picture qalitie is only good when you view it small.
Also the raw files it produce is by far from good.
it is actual worse then the jpegs,.So waste off your time to process those.

The SP are realy bad, alot off fringing, you cannot removed them in post process.
and like all sony's the pictures look way to blue.
also there Dslr are the same forcing you to take raw pictures only.

So look no further,it is thad SX10 or an Dslr with tele lens.

Most of the time I use -2/3 but several times I have to under expose a full stop in order to prevent clipping.
