Some more info on Nikon D5000 by Ken Rockwell

As usual with KR, that is not information, but speculation ... and most of it now proven wrong: not at PMA, not a 3" 920,000 dot LCD, not priced to be a D40 replacement given the Japanese site's price, not 16MP or that would be prominently advertised on that Japanese site, he missed the tiltable LCD ...

Yes the price looks bad, no real reason not to spend the last $200ish to get the D90. It will be interesting to see if the prices in Europe and the US will be similar.

I don't believe this as it would kill the D90 however if it is true
(very doubtful) I want one!
I don't see how it could kill the D90. I think it would fail to sell much, it's too close in price to the D90 considering all the features it's most likely lacking. But time will tell, hopefully tomorrow we'll all know much more.

Well if the new camera is priced around $799 price point (even initially) that clearly means that D40 (and maybe D60) are not going anywhere anytime soon. Because Nikon would need some lower priced models to compete with Canon's cheaper XS and other entry models from Olympus, Sony, Pentax, and Panasonic. The only reason D40/D60 would get discontinued if the new Camera had a price point at around $599. D40 is still a best selling model due to its low price point.
