a900 self portrait b&w

I love the look and expression, but not such a fan of the shoulder's position and the overall sharpness

Not easy to make a self portrait with shallow DoF... The R1 could have been better for that one, no?

for my part i didn't go beyond the ID picture attemps with my reflex :)

I'm puzzled. Looking at the meta data I see 135mm at f1.8. That pretty much has to be the Zeiss prime on the A900. I'd expect a different result.

I also notice you're uploading at full resolution. I wonder if the DPR does some sort of auto-resize that could be softening and flattening the image.

I think it broke. I went to your fototime site & everything's there. You should have a separate gallery of your self-portraits.

yw ....

the shot is not working for me sorry to say ......i wonder if the final outcome has to do with the RAW converter u use as i have seen many better ones.

i wanna ask u something can u put up a fullsized one.... straight from the camera ....why well i wanna see what i can do with Capture NX ( Nikon RAW converter ).

somehow i've got the idea that something has to do with ur converter and i've seen many discussions about raw conversions on the DSLR forum.....good conversion seems not the most easy part.....as most software does not seem to get max out of raw files.

btw don't call me a antibody ....i sincerely wanna help.

can i give it a try ?

and it seems sharper to my eyes...just an FYI...

this one doesn't really work for me, John...the body position and head turn...

the head is turned to your left and ever so slightly tipped down with the left shoulder hunched a bit. I think that I might like it better with the shoulder relaxed/down and the head turned to the left but not tipped at all...straight up and down...

and since the DOF is so shallow, I think that I also might like a much tighter crop to the head...so the eye in focus/ear out of focus would have more of an impact...with so much other space around it, the effect, for me, is "lost in the sauce".

all my opinion, of course...perhaps I'm totally missing the boat on what you're going for?

cheers,
charles

There's lots of other files out there if you want to do that.

I'm happy with the result here, or I wouldn't have shared it. If you're not happy that's ok. I know I can't please every one.

I've followed the discussions on the other Sony forum. I think they are nit-picking. There's a big difference between the jpgs and the RAW files, but the difference between the different RAW converters isn't so great in my opinion.
