It all started out with a full moon, hanging lazily around the horizon. I got the E-3 and 50-200 and snapped a couple of frames.

E-3, 50-200 MkI, 200 mm, f/5.6, 1/500, ISO200

But then I grew weary of the moon, and searched out something for the foreground - mother nature graciously provided clouds now for the backdrop.

E-3, 14-54, 32mm, f/3.2, 1/6, IS + monopod, ISO 2000

"Perhaps a spot of flash?", I thought.
E-3, 14-54, 14mm, f/3.2, 1/2, IS + monopod, ISO 800, FL-36 full power

Both were massaged greatly in PP. Next time I'll bring two flashes and light stands and get my flashes closer to the turbine.

Hi Adam,

Good ideas... Bring a tripod next time, on top of the lightstands, will ya ?

I must say i really like the second, with just a splash of red...

Worth doing a bracketed exposure on this one, maybe 3 shots, one for the moon, one for the turbine, and one for the clouds...

  1. 2 is really great - so keep on finding new ways to use it :)

The third shot is the first time I have ever really understood what ppl mean by banding at high iso. I've never seen it on any of my photos but then I don't shoot high iso.

Please don't take this as another banding, oly rubbish post its not intended that way.
I like your second photo. well done

Banding is a *****, especially when you have to raise the shadows at high ISO.

That's why next time I'm going to try more flashes closer to the turbine. That way I can lower the ISO to 400.

Thanks for checking this out...

Yes a tripod would have helped immensely :)

That was actually a parting shot taken from the road - I saw the clouds moving in and had to act quickly!

  1. 1 great!
  2. 2, something off, but i like the silhouette of the turbine
  3. 3, looks too much like you were trying to take a photo of the turbine and ditched the idea of MOOD for the image. i dont like the flash on the turbine at all.
