First time out with D40

The D40 is a great camera. It looks like you are off to a good start with it. I have the exposure compensation set at -2/3 (LCD indicates -.7) whenever I use matrix metering. When I use center-weighted metering I don't use exposure compensation at all. Those settings seem to be quite consistent for me. Keep up the good work.

Nice pictures.
I also own a D40 and quite like it.
Were these processed anyhow?

Some felt a bit "over-saturated", but could be just the strong daylight or a naturally stunning blue sky...

Hi,

I really like the colors, and it is a great camera. What lens did you use?

Thanks - I think I may have decreased the brightness a little too much in the supplied software (Pictureperfect) and this saturates the colours. I was shooting -1/3 EV (matrix metering) and they looked way overexposed out of the camera.

Thanks - I'm so glad I choose this camera - I was temted to upgrade my Lumix FZ8 to the new FZ28 - but this was same price with 18-55 cheapo Nikon kit lens. Cheapo only in price I mean - looks razor sharp to me and I love having the wide angle I used to have in my 35mm SLR days.

Thank you for your kind comment - I always know what I want to see in any shot I'm taking - but it's so much easier to do this with the D40 than my previous Lumix FZ28 - something about a real viewfinder. I don't miss the LiveView at all - after just one day!
