Tommy completely confused himself with the points system then proceeded to confuse us as well which made fings very interesting a. Thanks to David for a great controversy & sorry to Konstantin that we were too busy to get stuck into you for your sins.

How can anyone interested in photography not like B&W
Hope you are not color-blind Rod, but what I see with my eyes has lots of colors.

B&W is a legacy "technique" due to the technology of the time. Because in the old times ... they didn't have color!

Hope I'm not dating myself here, but I was developing B&W prints in my room when I was 11 years old. It was so expensive for a little boy that I had to save what my parents give me for allowance to buy paper and chemicals. Other kids buy candy and footballs.

It was so expensive that I had to recruit my cousin, I couldn't bear (spelling) all those costs by myself. Soon he quit, he couldn't afford half of the cost. I carried on. Had to save for longer. To minimize on cost I used to take the film to a studio near by, riding my bicycle, to have the film developed as a negative. I would do the rest myself.

So my friends, please don't tell me about B&W. Thank you

Is what I'm missing :)

Colour is great for snapshots Aamm & for ahrt picys from us less talented but most all the greats used B&W.

They had colour in the 1930s so how far are you going back. Before colour film was invented they had ways of projecting through filters from B&W film to produce colour.

There was plenty of colour film around when most of the greatest examples of the photographic arts were taken. Ansel Adams once said that colour picys can't be art.....Mind you he was a bit tipsy at the time.

Why are you worried about dating yourself? What is...is init. Are there any greater names in Photography than the photographers from the 30s,40s 50s, 60s, 70s, all shooting in B&W when colour was available?

You think thats bad, we were so poor I only had already exposed film to put in me camera & me camera had no lens. I also had to set up a darkroom in a shoe box:-)

Sorry Aamm I still have to tell you about the beauty of B&W when it's done right like the greats did it. You owe it to yourself to revisit every great picy that's ever been taken............... all in B&W

Is that your counter argument? Ha ha. Say it ain't so :)
but most all the greats used B&W.
Because they didn't have another choice. It was only B&W for those "greats" of yours. I remember seeing a "photographer" using a red chalk (or something like that) to paint a B&W baby's cheeks red to make the mother happy. Human nature. Mothers want to see their babies as beautiful as possible.

Not sure I follow you there, mate. They had color in the 30s?

No offense to our American friends, but if I hear another A Adams reference I will through-up. Sorry. It seems AA is a lot more important than Jesus, isn't it.

Don't know about those eras, but there is a nasty Gent from OZland that produce outstanding work in color. What's his name? Rod or something :)

Man, that's serious stuff. Is it true, or are you pulling my leg.

Ah,the great pics by the old timers. What about yours, mate. Some of the stuff you produce can kick those "greats" behind.

The yellow sign with the blue sky come to mind. Many others you have.

created in 1861 by James Clerk Maxwell. Of course, I'm sure it was painstakingly difficult and expensive to achieve and was probably considered "photoshop" back then? lol
