The modular DSLR is here!! :)

Ugly....and $9000 USD. I don't think that idea is going to catch on. Interesting though!

And, judging by the 1999 date at the bottom of the page, it's been here for about 10 years. I guess it wasn't a good enough idea to catch on.

As with all creative work, the craft must be adequate for the demands of expression. I am disturbed when I find craft relegated to inferior consideration; I believe that the euphoric involvement with subject or self is not sufficient to justify the making and display of photographic images. --Ansel Adams

Japanese planned obsolescence really is daunting, new cameras coming
along every 12 months...so a solution has arrived!

That "solution":

1) Was discontinued 8 years ago.

2) Had the performance of a Nikon D40 or Canon rebel body (1/2000 sec shutter speed, awkward controls, no weather sealing, 92% coverage viewfinder).

3) Weighed about 6 pounds (3 for the camera, 3 for an MF digital back).

4) Was manual focus.

5) Had a very high total cost of ownership, instead of replacing $8000 (soon down to $3000) DSLRs, you replaced $30,000 MF digital backs.

6) Had lower performance in the 24x36mm cropped portion of a MF back than a purpose built FF DSLR does.

Larger, heavier, slower, more expensive, harder to use, and poorer in performance. That's basically why the modular DLSR premise will always fail.

It came, but none asked it to stay.

No tear was shed, when it went away.

This camera reminds me of a pair of ugly and expensive shoes I saw when I was a kid. I asked some adults back then why anybody would buy that pair of ugly looking shoes. Their reply was that it is built to last. Imagine, an ugly pair of shoes that will last a long time so you can presumably get to keep wearing it! LOL

I suppose people just want the best, but simply fail to accept the fact that to be wanting the best, they need to pay for it.

Modulized system, hey they should take a look at Rollei 3003, its been done, but its just proof of how hard it can be and how costly it can be ..
