I'm a newbie to digital photography. Have a CP5K and Epson 1280 purchased from Henry's in Toronto about 2 months ago. Have read reviews on 2200 and seems impressive. Am considering trying to grind a deal with Henry's or Vistek re trading-in 1280 for 2200 while 1280 is practically new (used 1/3 of first ink cartridge).

Any thoughs?

Regards, Paul

You're not going to get much for a used printer...if you can afford it, keep both.

The 1280 will print on just about print on anything, whereas pigmented inks are more particular about what kind of paper you can use. Use the 1280 for printing where long-life is not mandatory and on oddball papers.

I've got a 2000P, C80, 1280 and 2200 and I use them all.

I have the 2000P, and I have been very happy with it. How much difference do you see with the 2200. I don't care about speed, or black and white.

Ron,

I see a big difference between the color prints produced on each printer. Today I tried a print on each machine with Premium Luster photo paper. The settings were: 1440 dpi, photo enhance 4, hard, no sharpening, no adjustment to ink drying configuration on the 2200.
The print from the 2000P seemed flatter and the colors were not as true.
I tried 2800 dpi and couldn't tell any difference.
I liked the difference using VIVID instead of HARD for this photo.
The 2200 was the hands-down winner (IMHO).

One other thing...I always had a problem with color shifting dramatically on the 2000P when you use a different light source, or shifted the angle of the light...that is dramatically reduced in the 2200.
Good luck!
