Just wondering if you have your earbuds pluged in (or maybe your studio speakers turned on) when using your camera.

Cheers!

Too focused on what I'm doing - I get in the zone, tune out the rest of the world.

Even if you can't donate, please help spread the word.

I usually have some music playing in the studio, but not generally on location, especially while in the woods.

I don't - already carrying too many gizmos.

But I've read that when shooting several scenes for the movie 'Powaqqatsi', the cameraman was listening to the relevant part of the already-recorded soundtrack - Philip Glass' music written for the movie.

I'm in to Landscape and Outdoor Photography as well as old Historic buildings and I'm always focused on what I'm shooting and getting the feeling of what it must to have been like to have lived back in time to be listening to music. Besides, there's too many pitfalls to disaster that could happen as I climb around these very old locations and I need to be focused on what I'm doing.

I'm not a robot so I never do the same things. Sometimes it's fun just hiking or walking in the city listening to music and taking pictures. Other times I love the silence. Usually though, when I'm sitting in my office playing around in photoshop and reviewing my shots, I crank the tunes.

I guess if I did it as a profession, I probably wouldn't on a client shoot. Then again, surgeons sometimes crank the tunes when they're slicing someone open, so I'm not sure it's any hindrance to concentration :)

The Sun Pilots sound check.

Oh , wait....yeah sometimes.

There have been a few (very few) shows when I seriously thought about bringing a portable player and listening while photographing the band and just smiling politely.

I always have ear plugs in though so sometimes can not hear it as well as I would like to.

Agreed. Distractions NOT needed. Get whacked by a rolling race car, lean too far over a freshly painted classic--with an $8,000 or more paint job, trip in a furrow. Nope. I need, and want, concentration on the job at hand and my surroundings.

For street shooting, NO WAY !, is dangerous.
The best time though is when processing and sorting files in the computer.
Nothing like working with Raw files when listening Early Baroque.
For shooting, some ambient, jazz or rockabilly is pretty cool.

During such times, my iPhone is always with me ----so, IMO, it'll be a waste to not listen to some music, Podcasts, or an audio book during these times (currently, I am trying to get through 13 Audio Books on Abraham Lincoln, as my thing to do for Lent, this year).

When I'm taking shots like these I do 8)

For other types of shooting however, no. I never wear headphones when out and about as they disconnect me from the world around me, which can range in effect from rude to dangerous depending on where you are.
