If you are curious how fast is the CX1 AF speed, see (listen) the two recordings I posted here...

When Ricoh dropped the phase detection AF from their cameras, many of us were quite disappointed by this step. It not only looked cool, but it was also very fast kind of AF system, especially if compared with traditional CCD based contrast detection. It seems that new CX1 brings us into new dimension of contrast detection speed! In my opinion, it even outperforms GRDI with its very fast phase detection AF.

after using my CX1 for the first day of ownership it seems to me the af speed is on par with just about every other compact camera that i have used. doesn't seem any better or worse. It's certainly not in the same class of speed as a DSLR.

These DSLR comparisons/analogies/comments don't help and they don't wash. Want DSLR performance? Buy one.

Regarding the CX1, it's always nice to know of performance improvements but (personally) I'm very much interested in IQ improvements. Sold my R7 and R8 & R10 weren't clearly better in IQ. Is the CX1? :) Or have I missed the write-ups on that part? :) lol, Yeah, I know it's that new. Am I jumping the gun here? :) gotta keep smiling... cause I mean this in a light-hearted (but still serious) way.

I already have one, thanks. I'm in the market for a compact as a pocketable alternative for when my dSLR is too heavy, cumbersome or conspicuous to schlep around, and a dSLR comparison by a good reviewer is very helpful to me because as a dSLR owner I already have that point of reference and it helps me know what to expect when I make the purchase.

Don't want or need that bit of information? Disregard or don't read it. Just don't make the mistake of assuming everyone has the same values you do.

Talking about IQ improvements don't help and they don't wash. Want better IQ performance? Get a camera with a bigger sensor. See? I can do it too.

I wasn't referencing Pavel, I always appreciate what he has to say, (it was the comment above mine). You missed my point.

This thread is about the CX1. We're speaking about a little P&S camera. There's no reason to compare apples to oranges (P&S to DSLR). If someone (Pavel) is reporting on generational improvements in a certain class of camera, which is information that's appreciated; What's the point in saying yeah, " it's all well & good" but it's still not as good as...

I only pointed-up the IQ aspect. I'm keeping it light. I even put in a little :)

Why do you feel like you need to teach me a lesson? (Please don't answer)

I don't know what you're reading because there never was a DSLR comparison by the OP in this thread. There was a subsequent comment making a comparative statement which I felt didn't really serve a purpose, and you choose to jump on me for it.

Very nice of you. Thank you.

Yes, I appreciate the reminder.

Brilliant!

The only point I was trying to make is that the AF performance on the CX1 is "as expected" for this type of camera. When I half-press the shutter the focus timing is the same as my Panasonic, Canon, Fuji, etc. They are pretty much all on-par, which is not to say bad or great.

I wanted to apologize as well. I really didn't mean to 'jump' at you like that, and I realize that it was very rude of me, as least it sounded that way. Too much of the bad manners in some of the other forums rubbed off on me (I guess), where there's always that one idiot who has to get overly critical or intolerant, and yesterday - I was that idiot. :)

It'll probably happen again here, but not from me...
