challenges?

I've been a member here since 2001. I only recently noticed the challenges box with contestants submitting a photo theme. Talk about one track vision.

Any case, now we have up:

"The latest phase of our Challenges system is underway - community-generated challenges. Following a successful roll-out, bug-fixing and lesson-learning phase, we're starting to open the Challenges system up so that you can create new series of challenges to test your peers' visions and creativity. The first community-generated challenges begin accepting entries from tomorrow and there's a page for you to volunteer as a series host. "

This is all bloody Greek to me or I'm just getting old and stupid. Does this have to do with contests and submitting pics? How is it done? The whole set up doesn't seem user friendly.

I thought the description of the community based challenge was not clear at all. My guess was that maybe they meant forum based. Community? What do they mean by community? To me, the closest thing on dpreview to a community are the various forums.

If they meant a person volunteers to instigate a challenge and must then moderate it, then I think they need to give it a better name, like "User hosted challenge".
 
Well, I guess my question at this point is this: if there is a new challenge, where is it posted? Like I mentioned, I've been a member and regular visitor here since 01 and I've never noticed anything about any photo contests.
 
There was a lot of attention to it on the frontpage, mentioned as a news item as well some months ago when they started with it. Furthermore there was a box on the frontage mentioning: "Challenges BETA" since the start

The contests are hosted by dpreview, we have to create them and take part in it :-)

I take it that you have seen the Challenges item on the left hand menu panel?

Uh, no. DUH! What planet have I been on? Talk about a one track mind when I visit here. So that explains it. I feel like a total jerk.
