Some seem to have managed to get their hands on the CX1 - it is obviously in Japan and Singapore - where else might the CX1 be available at this point?

Edit: Oops. Just noticed you're not from the US, so my reply probably won't do you any good, as I don't think the retailer I mentioned ships to your country. Sorry!

I don't think any brick and motar retailers will carry Ricoh cameras, but there is one online retailer that both sells and offers US warranties on them. That being Adorama.com. I've actually been following this camera too, and have had the link to the camera at Adorama in my bookmarks for some time. It was slated to ship late May, but it seems they're selling and shipping it now. I'm still iffy on this camera, so I may play the waiting game for a bit. I've ordered from Adorama twice before and have not had any problems. The only downside is that their return policy is not very forgiving. You pretty much need to make sure the camera you're ordering is the one you want. I think they give you a stingy fourteen days and if you're returning it opened for a refund there's a restocking fee. You might check on that, though.

Anyway, here's the link:

I'm on vacation in NYC and walked into Adorama this afternoon and picked up a CX1 in black. They had 2 left in stock. They also have the Silver color - not sure how may of those color were left. They also have the genuine Ricoh leather case.

So far the few test images I have taken are looking good. I'll be testing much more tomorrow when I visit the statue of liberty. I will say the I am loving the build quality. Feels great and a little step up from the R10 (which Adorama also has in stock).

FYI, http://www.popflash.com is also an authorized Ricoh dealer in the USA and it looks like they have the CX1 as well.

While not to try and distract from the topic at hand, but if you ever post any of your test pictures online I'd love to see them. I really want a new camera, but am really struggling to find a quality semi-compact. My goal is to find a camera that takes pictures as the naked eye sees things. My old Leica APS camera was the closest camera I've had to do that. My current is a Canon, and I'm just growing tired of their unwillingness to innovate, only instead releasing the same old camera with known problems galore yet with boosted mega pixels. But enough of that. The Ricoh brand from some reason just seems to be calling me - I guess because it's a rarity stateside and still so unknown to me. Yet, I hear so many complaints of noise and what not. My main purpose of getting one would be to take high quality shots of every day things. I would ever need any super sized prints, but want super rich pictures bursting with color and detail - indoor people shots and nature shots. Anyway, if you ever get board and want to share, I'd love to see some of your results with the camera. Hope you like it in the end.

FYI, popflash.com will send you a trial Ricoh CX1 camera if you pay the shipment cost both ways and put down a deposit. If you like the camera, return it and popflash will send you a brand new CX1. If you don't like the camera, after returning it, popflash will return your deposit. The details are on http://www.popflash.com Ricoh camera page. It is a neat way of trying out a camera that you are interest in.

Just be sure to read Popflash's return policy before you order. They only have a 24 hour return policy on Ricoh cameras. I'm not saying they are a bad dealer - i have purchased from them before, just be sure you know the policy ahead of time. Adorama has a 14 day return policy and will do an immediate swap on defective cameras during that period.

Looks like Popflash's new "try it out" system is their attempt to deal with the short return policy, only issue is that it doesn't address a new camera that might develop problems during the first few weeks of use. In that case you have to send it in for repair rather a dealer exchange.

popflash is offering a test csx1 for a week trial. If you like it you return the test camera and they send you a new one, if not you just return it and all you are out is shipping. They charge your card until they get it back, but all in all, not a bad deal. Plus popflash is great to deal with.

Thanks - they should be generally available soon - some places say they have them to get the early order and then just take a few days for delivery.

Once a few places get them we will find out the 'right' price.
