TS1 - Disappointed by Results

I'm picking one up as well. Not out yet in the US. While there may be marginal difference in the IQ of these cameras from the different manufacturers, that difference goes away a bit if you really know your settings and can easily navigate the camera/menus. Using other Pannys makes this much easier to master and makes it much more intuitive to use. Too bad it is coming out right at the end of your summer. For us we get it just in time for the beach.

yeah people tend to get a bit hung up on pic quality looking at evrything at 100 % on screen,my mate has the pentax W60 i think it is its got very average quality to me,we have still got 2 months of reasonable weather here and the oceans flat quite often so perfect jetsking weather, the FT1 will be perfect for it,i do have a FZ30 and LX3 which are great cams

Another nice feature is the non-extending lens. Nice not to have to worry about damaging it or hoping it doesn't suck in dust. Also, durability for durability's sake isn't such a bad thing.

Can you tell me if the places you purchased the camera will ship to the US? I am interested in getting one very soon and am eager to purchase one if i can get it by next week.

As a good review I would suggest anyone interested in TS1 to check out the review on photoreview.com ...

They show a number of pictures taken underwater as well as above a better evaluation in my opinion than Image Resource Samples.

Photoreivews summary concluded that the pictures taken by TS 1 were a cut above or better than any similar underwater camera they had ever tested and the head of its class. Add to that the best HDTV video in any such camera.

They even intentionally dropped the TS1 to concrete without any apparent damage. While the TS1 does have one small seal around chip insert that they recommend replacing annually, the rest of the camera is completely sealed. I have read of many leakage problems on seals for the whole camera on most of the competitors and problems of getting replacements hence the Pany disclaimer.

I would also suggest that you take a look at similar threads in Dpreview under the topic of "I think this deserves more attention - Gutsy Panasonic or" Overlooking TS1 Underwater wonder?"

My two bits

I had seen these shots before and I thought they were really quite good. Just waiting for it to be in stock.....but then I need to figure out what color.....orange is high on the list. No need for it to blend it at the beach.

I saw a great Oly wrist band that floats. It was in their catalogue. Unfortunately I haven't found anyplace that sells it.

Heck, I didn't even plan on using this in the water. Maybe if it rains. I just liked its indestructable nature and non-extending lens. I hope it compares favorably to regular compacts. As for the video, not so sure about its ease of use since I'm a Mac user.
