Obviously, Henry's is doing the honourable thing and leaving their stockOkay wow why so much, http://www.henrys.com is still showing it at $999.99
Just to clarify; "Dave, you don't mean the shop where I work in Vancouver,http://www.henrys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ItemsDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&departmentId=10404&categoryId=11802&itemID=192809
I wonder why your shop has it for so much,
I hope not, hopefully, it is as I mention in my inital answer abovemaybe Henry's is just slow
on upping the prices.

Ditto pour moi ... and that includes: FBA, CBA and, maybe even, CBBAInteresting though, that certain products are climbing very high
whilst others are relatively near current pricing. In my industry
costs are going up due to the $, insurance against pirates, peak
season surcharge and fuel surcharge from Asia. Interesting for me in
that core LCD panels will increase by roughly $1-2USD to
manufacturering.
I don't question Pentax price increase, just the huge uplift to make
products what 40-50% more. hmmmm, my purchasing power only dropped
by 20% so the Yen must be worthless. That really sucks for any
excess spending on photo equipment for me...maybe...No LBA here ;-0
Hi Prog,FA 43mm 1.9 $949.99 $479.95 $470.04 98%
Yowza, I think not ...and, taking in account the current FA 50/1.4$950 for a 43/1.9? Is it $650 better than the 50/1.4?
IMHO, I think the DA 50-135 is a "MORE" unreasonable price hike but,$800 better
than a competitor 50/1.8? I think this price increase is just as
unreasonable as that of the 50-135/2.8.

It's amazing what one can do when one doesn't know what one is doing![]()
So, you have Pentax gear but now want to sell it? Or you were thinkingI make the choice to leave Pentax for Nikon. I can't no longer
support to ask me what will be the futur of Pentax (market evolution,
Pentax orientation and strategy...) when I would like to buy a lens.

Yikes! Although that seems like a disaster for them, once the stock arrives they are stuck with it if you choose to not re-order.I ordered a DA 50-135 (along with a couple of other lenses and
flashes)earlier in
March hoping to get them at the lower cost and was told that if they
arrived in
time I would receive them but if they didnt I would have to re-order
them at
the higher cost![]()
I contacted Pentax today and, so far, no
word on the
back order situation........... so far
Cheers,

I don't wait for lenses. I buy what I need when it's available. I needed a good 50mm, so I bought 4 in that range. (50's and cheapo 55's)waited a long tim for the new 50mm 1.4 sdm,... but $800+ autsch,...
I did buy a Pentax lens for under $200 once. ONCE.and nikon came out with a nifty 35mm 1.8 af-s for $200
so the 50mm 1.4 for under $500 and the 35mm 1.8 for $200,
My K20D live view is once of those consumer features that only serves to drain the battery. I used it once when I got the body. What a waste. I much prefer to manual focus with my O-ME53. Things just POP into focus.and they have bodies to go with it, aka, like the LCD, and the live
view for manual focus too,...
Sure, for the legions of cat-food eating football photographers that all have back problems.the reason canon is big, because of cheaper, or available long
lenses,...
You can keep your FF, thanks. Too darn heavy for mountain climbing here (I live in Calgary, and play in the Rockies)now if they could deliver some camera bodies, with the associated LBA,
the equation would work profit, but on the same token, most local
stores, don't really have it in stock, and there is no competitive
body to go along with it,
aka FF, LCD, live view, video, etc,... so a catch 22
Yes, agreed they are smoking something funny there. I just don't understand.one more, just don't see it justified, to pay $800+ for a 50mm 1.4
from pentax,
I've tried Zeiss, and like it very much. Very nice color rendition, bokeh. They will probably make some money off me this year.that is more expensive then a zeiss, even if it has AF,
I'm still not sold on FF. Too heavy, and the manufacturers insist on shoving more pixels on them. If you could have a 12 - 15 MP FF sensor, that's ok. Any more and you just have to do too much for noise reduction with small photosites.now if all
other lenses are going that way, it would even make more sense, to
go / push full frame, even with screwdriver lenses, my buddy has a
bunch of old AIS lenses, what perform very well on full frame.
Now that SDM is understood I'd expect Sigma to release Pentax at the same time as C/N. But it's nice to see C/N buyers review them first, before I spend my money on them. They aren't all winners.guess one more,... with option like sigma and tamron, unfortunatly
they come out late or not at all with lenses , that are available for
nikon or canon, what makes it a double trouble for pentax.
Somewhat... I agree that Pentax has it's head up it's collective .... well, you know. I think they are trying to build an elitist brand, but they are going about it wrong. Ordering Pentax online from the same store that you buy hammers and nails? What are they thinking? I can name other companies that I'd expect that of. But they are all just empty brands now; licensed names to companies that have no photographic heritage at all: Kodak. Polaroid. Vivitar...does this make sense to anybody else ?
It's sad that you're leaving Pentax but I'm glad you're not buyingI am leaving Pentax, not buying Nikon and putting the money into the
$10 disposable cardboard Kodak cameras you get in the WalMart
check-out lane in every big box location throughout North America!!!

My favorite is of course the 50mm f/1.2. It has a better build than
the 1.4, and of course the images are just dreamy.
Oh, and it plus an old film body (that still works!) was only $35.
Score!!!

It was a 28-70 f/4, and it's basically junk, only good for outdoor
daylight. It's not tack sharp unless stopped down to at least f/8.
My understanding is that the newer kit lenses are much more
respected, but I don't own any.

But I do take your point, the reason they haul all those heavy FF
lenses around behind Tiger Woods is because they have no choice.
I haven't purchased my Bigma yet. Probably for Africa in the fall of
2010; that's when I need longer glass.
However I keep seeing these lovely 600mm f/4's (?) pop up on ebay,
and they are only $2200 ish. Factor in the crop, and that's like
having a Hubble on your Pentax!!!

As for video... that's a great big fat 'meh'. Who cares? Focus
assist? Nope. HD Audio? huh. How about nice long Hitchcock cuts... oh
wait, no the sensor would melt.
For the price, it's better to pick up a good Canon Vixia.
As for others... Pentax have LCD's... and Live View. So nothing to
say there.
Oh, and weather sealing; that's important. In Paris I saw so many
tourists running and hiding when it rained; trying to keep their
investments dry. At least I had all of Notre Dame to myself
Did you mention SR? No? I love SR. Because it works with all my
classic glass. All of it. Even the stuff that's M42 screw mount.

I'd like to see a new sensor; the K20D sensor is excellent compared
to the K10D, but no more MP!!! 15 MP maximum, but high ISO with
neither NR nor noise. I prefer the choice that Pentax has gone to
leave NR to the photographer; I'd rather not have noise at all.
I'd like a nice heavy, metal body, too. Something about 1.5 times the
weight of a K20D and grip. It would even more stable. As it is I can
hike all day with it in my hand and don't tire. But I would like the
security of a nice metal shell when I'm scrambling and it's in my
pack.
And ultimately, I don't see what difference most of this makes.
All of these cameras, from the oldest ist, Digital Rebel or 1D, to
the newest D3x or 645D take nice images. They have, essentially, the
same glass options. Used properly they all have the potential to
amaze.
But this is basically a gear forum, so talking about the most
important upgrade of all - the one between your ears - is uncommon.

I don't think Pentax would get too upset if we were to cancel our itty-btty order...Yikes! Although that seems like a disaster for them, once the stock
arrives they are stuck with it if you choose to not re-order.
I'll say and quite surprising .... to meAnd too bad about TCS prices.
Ah ha .... ;DBut I'm still going there to put some nose prints on the 645 display
case (hence my pseudonym...)
I suspect you grilling will go something like this:I remember a year or so ago when they
had it at the back of the store ... the clerk said they had basically
bought out ALL of Pentax Canada stock of 645 stuff. It's picked over
now, but there are still some lenses there.
Also I think I heard the local Pentax rep hangs out there, probably
doing rounds as Saneal is down the street. I'd like to run into him
(Bill? Bruce? Bob?) and give him a good grilling on how hair-brained
this price move is.
--At least I don't have to buy new lenses. Ever. If I want any of the
primes (and I do) it'll be aftermarket.
