--Just received a new Canon SX10. Is there any place I can get extra help with the instructions for using this camera? The book is sometimes clear and sometimes it's not. I want to learn the functions so I can get the best from the camera. Yes, I'm an amateur and new to digital cameras. Have looked at the Canon site but didn't find what I need.

Thanks for any help.

--I found that I had to read the manual a few times and working with the camera to understand what it can do. The point and shoot function is great, but where the sx10 really shines is when you use all the other modes. There are also a lot of other threads on this site that offer tutorials on camera settings and the capabilities of the camera. I would suggest a look in the beginners section of this forum. A lot of info there. Happy snapping! JoeB

I've always preferd to explore each feature, having no prior knowledge of it's abilities, and see what it can do. I'm the type of person that learns much more from being hands on and doing, as opposed to reading the instructions. I remember much more that way. And it's a good excuse to go out and take photos, even of nothing special.

As for worrying about accidently changing default settings, there's always the ability to bring it back to factory settings.

Do an internet search for "Dennis Curtains Short Courses on the SX10." It just came out. I have the S5 book and it is fairly well written, easy to understand. It's not a fancy book. It's in black and white and spiral bound. I would buy it without the CD. It is definitely easier to understand than the manual.

Rick,
Hooked on super zooms

--Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions. I'm sure I'll be playing with this camera a lot to find out what it can do. When I learn just a little, that's when the book or written instructions help the most.

Thanks again.

Yeah, thanks for suggesting that book. I also am trying to learn about mine. I have an sx100is and that has helped some but there are even more features on the sx10. And I think that's part of the problem with the book, it doesn't have enough room to go into a lot of detail without becoming more than just an instruction manual.

I mistakenly pressed a button and made my playback do something wierd. I eventually just reset all but I did find what caused it. I like how the book has a page number referance anytime a topic comes up. I am afraid I am going to wear it out before it's time.

I'm going to look into that other one .
