Direct Qimage Pro Raw File Support is Here!

oh come on, the Fuji LE is not bad :)

for me, the main improvements come in the form of better colour and preventing highlights being blown out. I find detail about the same... I would be surprised if the Fuji converter had detail, after all they did build the camera....
I'm finding that sometimes the result (in terms of fine detail at
large sizes) is not very different from the fuji LE raw file
convertor.

I'm sure its my fault - how should I change the settings for max
detail?

Roy

Qimage Pro will not render more fine detail than the Fuji RFC. The Fuji RFC is actually quite incredible at interpolation and resolving low level detail. Trying just to match the Fuji RFC with respect to low level interpolation took most of the two weeks that I worked on the Qimage Pro beta. Right now, the two are pretty close with respect to resolving fine detail.

What Qimage Pro gives you is more accurate color, better tonal range, and some more flexible options for batch conversions.

Mike,

It looks great! Will you be providing an optional ICC Color Profile for the S2 for download as well?

Jeff

Thanks for the answer. I appreciate the extra control Qimage gives (which is why I've just bought it :)
Now I just need to make sure I'm sqeezing every ounce of possible quality.

Any improvement you can suggest on the choices I made below

Thanks for a super product

Roy

In ‘raw format options’ I choose
Gamma 1
Auto level Ticked
Shadow/Highlight (0/.1)
Convert to Tiff with 16 bits/channel
Use sRGB for display/conversion
Convert to Tiff

When converting the images from the queue I choose
Apply associated filters if they exist
Save as Tiff lossless
Perform a profile to profile S2raf.icm to Adobe sRGB

As a separate excercise I also tried choosing the ‘linear raw space’ (raw format options) together with making the profile to profile s2raf.icm to s2raf.icm.

Jeff, I'm new to qimage so I may be wrong, but in the latest beta there is an s2raf.icm which I believe is a profile for the raw file.

True. That will only work for raw files though and is used internally by Qimage Pro. If you are referring to an ICC profile for JPG/TIF files from the camera, I hadn't planned on making any available. There are just too many settings that can affect profiles in the JPG/TIF mode, so it's best to create your own profile for your own camera settings. Raw is a different story because one profile always works on raw data.

from

Check the above URL to download Qimage Pro 2002 v2.3 beta 1 which
contains full, direct support for S2 raw files. Please read the
beta notes on the page as they give some useful information about
this pre-release. I'm still working on better interpolation
methods to improve resolution at the single-pixel level, but this
version already offers more accurate color and tone than available
in any other software with respect to S2 raw files.

If you've been shooting in raw mode, feel free to give this version
a try and let me know what you think.

Also, thank you to Moshe Vainer as we worked together on some
aspects of our raw decoders and were able to save each other some
time in development.

Mike,
When will the D100 raw be read by Qimage?
Regards
RAul
I don't know if/when I'll get to the D100 raw files. It would be done already if Nikon hadn't completely changed the format of their NEF files. Since the NEF format is no longer straight forward to read/decode, it will be a while as I need to take the time to figure out the new format. Right now, I'm making no promises.
