Hi

I know that new 200D is very hard to find but what would you buy between new K200D kit and secondhand K10D kit.

K10D is superior to K200D in many aspects including 2 wheels, penta prism, larger and my be brighter viewfinder and more.

What is advantage of K200D over K10D, autofocus speed?

Another one question.
what would you buy between K10D and GX-10?

Thanks in advance

AFAIK the K200D has better high ISO performance. I use ISO 1600 on my K200D very often, and find it absolutely usable, contrary to some user reports from K10D owners. Seems that the K200D has less noise, and has no visible noise patterns in JPG images. The body is also lighter and smaller.

I am afraid the list of advantages ends here. No multiple exposures; no rear curtain sync; for reliable operation you have to use Eneloop-like batteries with a good quality charger; exposure compensation is + -2 EVs only; no dedicated button for ISO.

On K10 there is auto focus adjustment through the hacked menu that may be usefull. I think that K2000 is a great camera

No, AF is likely to be if anything slightly slower because the motor has to run on less voltage. The K10D is in most ways a better camera, but I chose the K200D anyhow based on:
  • smaller / lighter
  • AA batteries
  • arguably better high ISO performance (although they share the same sensor, other internals are different, and "most" reports say the K200D does better, although I can't offer any proof of this)
  • quieter shutter
For most people, the advantages of the K10D you listed trump these concerns, but that's what did it for me (plus the K200D was new at the time and held a stronger possibility of firmware upgrades and so forth). K200D also has some differences in the interface that are mostly advantages to beginners (scene modes, etc).

At least one poster here had reported superior autofocus performance when shooting sports with a K200D over the K10D. The K10D also seemed to have problems with AF and specific lenses, like the DA21, that were not reported with the newer camera. Regardless of voltage, the K2000/Km has shown that Pentax AF performance has been steadily improving with newer models.

I love my K200D, it's sexy, smaller, fast AF on Kit lens, DA 35 macro, the shutter sounds proffesionally damped, simpler interface means I concentrate more on taking photss, less on trying 100s of diffrent possibilties. Lasty and most impotantly it takes great pictures...Jpegs are really great, I usually mess up my raw files in LR og iPhoto, then look at the jpegs and think why did I bother....

Changing light gives me the possibility of seeing the world from a new
perspective.
For me photography is a tool for capturing these insights, for reflection and
sharing.

--Don't forget, buying a new camera vs used, you should have a warranty that should cover you for at least the 1st year of use.

I'm not sure if you've got the option to correct for front- or backfocusing with the 200d; the K10D allows that, so that could also weigh in on your decision. I prefer the ergonomics of the latter (the 2 largely customizable wheels are a big plus in my usage), though it could be a bit lighter and smaller to fit in my backpack when hiking. True, the mirror slap and high iso noise are annoying at times but it's nothing I couldn't live with in my non-pro use.

In the US k20s prices are getting closer to 600 new with a four year warranty.
