Hi- I have been given a new GX-20 that I have not used yet. Before keeping it I would like to know from other GX(10 or 20) users if you have had any of the problems that the K20d appears to have. I know these cameras are basically the same but it appears from looking through the pentax forum, there seems to be an unusual number of complaints with the k20. I have owned a k10d in the past and found it to be a very good camera. I currently use a Nikon d60 and D1X which have been problem free. Thanks for any replies. Don

Hi Don

I've had my GX20 for almost a year now and I have had no issues with it at all. Even the rare pixel problem that appeared when the K20D first came out did not appear on my GX20 and I have read of no others with it. Mind Samsung released the firmware fix a little after the Pentax encase anyone had it. Overall I am very happy with it.

The times I have need to contact Samsung I have found them quick and helpful - about last year's rebate. Mind, I found the same with Pentax when I sent my FA35mm f2 for repair.

I had a Canon D60 and 20D before this and swapped to Samsung/Pentax. I have a mix of Pentax and Sigma lenses. Samsung's lenses would be fine but I got a better price on the ones I have. If Samsung stays true to Pentax fit, then I see no issue in staying for the NX and maybe another GX. I wonder, given Pentax's problems, whether Samsung will see its chance and buy them out.

Really, it does not really matter which body since it is the lenses that last - a bit like us: the body dies the soul goes on ;).

Thanks Dave for your reply. It would appear that since Samsung is coming out with their own mount, they will be moving away from Pentax.

I have a GX10, and it is superb, no problems at all, except very early on, (2 years ago (, it had to go to Samsung to have its mani board changed, (it was working but the manual W/B was all to hell). On this occasion, Samsung had it back, in perfect working order 3 weeks to the day from when I posted it. It has worked perfect since then. I think the problems with the K cameras were with the early K10's and not the K20. But as far as I know now, there is no problems with reliability issues with either camera. But I prefer the feel of the GX series to the K series. They look, handle, and according to a few magazines here in the UK, take a better picture too. Don't forget, the K10 is an obsolete camera, but the GX10 is still being manufactured.

If you are thinking of their new NX, yes it comes with a own mount,
but it is not the same kind of SLR.

I don't think they will stop using Pentax K-mount for their Dslr, GX-series.

As Starslin states above, the NX is not an SLR, it is an EVIL camera, (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangable Lens). Samsung have said that they will be retaining the K mount, (Pentax mount), for their range of DSLR's. While the NX system will have its own new mount.
