Hello to all, I was just wondering if any of you guys have had “problems” with the TSA or any other security personnel at the airports all over when they see you have two or more devices with antennas built in that may look s remote triggering devices???

I'm just wondering if I should take my Pocket Wizards with me on my carry on camera case or if I better check them in the luggage.

Thanks in advance for your comments

contact the respective airlines websites or humans

Last few times I flew domestically, the sirline had a separate provision for professional camera gear carry-on. I was able to bring the normal allowed carry on bag, and ADDITIONALLY permitted my camera gear bag.

As carry on, they are subjected to the normal inspections, which MAY include having to turn on or otherwise demonstrate they function as intended. There may also be the SWAB test for explosive component traces.

TSA is fun....

You can take a clear EMPTY bottle thru security and fill it up on the other side, but you can;t take a clear bottle of water thru.

You can use gov'mt isued photo IDs other than your driver's license, however, some agents are accostom to just the driver's license and will challange anything else presented them. I happen to work inside a TSA=secured facility, and have a TSA-authorized ID (fingerprints, background check), and one gate guy was balking. Once he brought over his supervisor, I pointed out the sign indicating what IDs were permitted, and the "TSA approved" security clearance sticker that was on the face of my ID. I consider it part of my public duty to politely educate % )

Can't answer about PWs specifically, but I took Radio Poppers through with no problems.

I did have to remove all my gear from my camera bag and place it in the gray trays.

The reason, "big camera", a D700 with grip!

I'd make sure you carry your camera gear as a carry on item. They will open it up and look through each piece, sure, but no big deal. My PW didn't make anyone nervous. I assume they look for "custom" wiring on these things. The PW is so tightly engineered that any "add on" inside would stick out like a sore thumb on the X-Ray.

Batteries are another story. Check current regulations for what and how much you can carry on because they will definitely confiscate batteries. I usually ship mine ahead if I need to take a larger number.
Best,
-Kent

Thans guys... I personally never have had problems at the TSA check points other than the normal X-Ray and few times the swab thing.

My concern was basically because the PW II have those big antennas and to be honest with you, if I was a TSA person I might not let a person with wireless devices entering an airplane...

Maybe I'm just thinking too much since I was a security manager ages ago. ;-)

I've never had any problem with carrying my Pocketwizards as part of my carry-on baggage, nor have I ever been asked to take my camera gear (D3, D3X or comparable Canon gear, lenses, speedlights, sometimes a tripod head, media cards cables etc. out of my carry on bags. I fly through big airports frequently.
