Removing the auto exposure for point and shoot! HELP!!!

Hey guys, what mode and what settings do i put my camera in so that i can take pictures like a SLR or close to, so when i press the button it takes the picture right away??? I would like to take some pictures of my fish but by the time it sets the exposure the picture is gone... any help would be great! thanks!

Well, SLRs have to focus too, but they do tend to be faster.

Assuming you are talking about G2, S30 or S40, what you need to do is pre-focus. On the G2, you press the shutter half way to focus, then hit the MF button (left side of the camera). This will lock focus.

You can lock exposure with the " " button on the back or just use M mode.

Now you're all set. When you click the shutter the picture will be taken with almost no lag.

Instructions for S30/S40 are likely to be slightly different.
