Even the thread to which ProFotos posted his request for help on Brooke Baday photo has been removed.

150 posts, of which only two people complained and 130 people positively responded and those two people win. He gets banned.

If you disagree with the decision, (as I do) then politely send feedback to the moderators. They have been very fair in the past.

I did not get the impression he was trying to profit off of what he was asking for. It wasn't much different than their DP Challenges.

I assume someone complained and aggregated the facts.

All we can do is to send feedback. It is up to the moderators to reverse this decision. Each person must decide on their own if this ban is fair, and if you think it is not, then POLITELY send feedback.

One thing I find very, very interesting though. Of the two who complained about ProFotos Brooke Baday thread (since pulled), they compared ProFotos to a member by the name of CMS4 who was taking retouched work from the members here and posting it on his Commercial Website as his own work. This CMS4's profile does not show him as banned. Which means even though those same people who complained about ProFotos, did NOT report CMS4 who STOLE WORK, and claimed it as his own.

This is simply a case of two, people who have imposed their will on the 130 other members who actively participated in that thread and found NO PROBLEM with the request.

Well, he openly did request "Retouching Work" on a photo which was going to be selected by Brooke Baday's website, and even posted her url. That probably could be and was probably viewed as an unpaid commercial.

Best regards.

I already sent feedback (link below )
http://www.dpreview.com/misc/feedback.asp

Basically anyone posting anything on the web has risks getting their work stolen, borrowed, etc.

I assume most people retouch other peoples work her for fun and for some friendly competition. I didn't think profoto's request was outside the boundary of the spirit of what others are doing here.

I once had some dirt-clod of a college profession assign a software development project to me for a grade, he then sold the work I had done. It happens.

Anyway, hopefully the moderators will take the time to read the original post reverse their decision.

thanks

Respectfully, retouching is what we do here. Numerous members, some of which are professional have asked for help in the past, and we usually have no problem giving that help. It is only when one abuses the services of others that we have a problem. Like CMS4 did. Taking retouched work and claiming it to be your own is 100x worse than what ProFotos did.

I have total confidence in the fairness of the moderators here. I think the best course is to just send POSITIVE feedback right now.

Thanks for reading.
Best regards.

Only the apparent and potential obvious. If you are not involved in this ban, then join us in asking for his reinstatement. Fair enough?

"Apparent and potential obivous" to whom? Without having verifiable facts you're simply engaging in wild speculation.

And you're offering a false choice as if those are the only two options. I'm as indifferent today as I was last Friday.

I actually find it rather odd that "theolddog" the person who initiated this thread, had never before posted on DPReview before last night. Yet he/she purports to have an alleged e-mail from Profotos claiming he'd been banned. Given your previous use of multiple "handles" in this forum it would not be unreasonable to suggest that you were the poster. Two can play this game.

------------------

while i find the above practice as abhorant, it is still within the rules. and that is the point. we may all find that what CMS4 did was immoral illegal unpleasant dishonorable and very probably and worst of all fattening. it was still within the rules of the forum.

once you use the forum for making money or profit making or advertising in a commercial sense or ANY commercial use, then THAT is flatout against the rules and everyone here on these forums should know that. we all read the rules, right? i know i did, didn't everyone else? after the event occurs it is a little late to state that i didn't know i couldn't do that, whatever that was. all that was needed was to read the rules, which they should have done anyway.

this is the second or third time a thread like this one has been written in the last 2-3 weeks. and it all comes from the same thing-someone went over the established written line, which they knew what the line was BEFORE they said anything, and did it anyway. now they say, poor me, i did not know that or forgive me, after they busted the rules which they knew full well what they were BEFORE they said anything. well, they should have thought of that before they said anything that was against the rules.

I find your statement a bit general, although I did mention in the thread that I thought it was spam, I had nothing to do with having him removed! I rather enjoyed the responses and edits form you people despite the fact that I had chosen not to participate.
Perhaps others noticed the spam as well and did not openly say so in the thread.

Again you are putting words in my mouth, who in the heck is CSM4? If you blame me of doing something then put some evidence forward, please.
This is ridiculous!

Since I am one of the two people who openly voiced my concern in the offending post, I would like you to know that your insinuations are without basis and if you continue to assert allegations like the above, I will be complaining to the administrators about your behavior!
