next F200 review available (dkamera.de)

I think it is safe to say that the G10 at base ISO in Raw will
outresolve the Fuji pretty easily. Will wait for the dpreview, I
guess.
At base ISO and RAW, I would tend to think so too because it does
have more of 'em megapixels & a good lens. The F200EXR also has a
great lens... perhaps even better... but what impresses me most is
that the F200EXR's out-of-camera JPEG output is quite impressive to
begin with even at high ISOs. Now if Fuji allows us access to RAW in
a subsequent model... 'nuff said!
I did a test yesterday and yes the G10 (even jpg) resolves slightly more detail than the F200 -but- it is a mixed bag because it's mostly in the center of the frame in my shots and not a huge difference. The F200 is cleaner than the G10 even at base ISO (ISO80 vs 100 for the F200) ... I still prefer the G10 outdoors as it has higher shutter speeds and more appealing colors OOC ... but the F200 is my choice indoors above ISO400 or where I can't use my G10/RD2000 flash.

Thanks, McClick, that's a nice thing to say. Fujiforum is my favorite forum here at dpreview - it is a previous haunt of mine, as I started photography when I purchased a Fuji 2800 lo so many years ago now.

Most of the folks I knew from here have also moved on to other cameras and forums. Except for the amazing Dan Wolf, who is still doing a bang up job, I see, running Fujimugs. :) :)

If I had both these compacts with me I'd do the same... i.e. use the G10 wherever the illumination levels were not a problem... especially at base ISO where the G10 absolutely rocks.

Only time I may consider not using a G10 during bright conditions is if I want to capture a wider dynamic range in a high contrast scene... even though I could use the histogram to prevent clipping the highlights and pulling the shadows up later in PP. The LX3 and the F200EXR are simply better at this than the G10... even in JPEG.

The reason why I'd prefer to use the G10 (over other compacts) in well illuminated conditions where I can obtain a perfect exposure is its considerably higher resolution. To me resolution matters very much... if I can successfully capture the same scene without noise at a higher resolution, you bet I will!

Sometimes, for my needs, six megapixel does not cut it... sometimes its just not enough. That said, I prefer shooting at higher resolution more often for optical clarity benefit, and less often for the post processing benefit.

I still feel Canon can easily do another G series with a superior F2.0 lens and a 4x optical zoom range. They already have the technology since they have offered us such a camera in the past.

I cannot get my camera to come close to the comparison show for the 200EXR and the SD870. I have a distinct green(ish) cast to all 200EXR photos, the samples there show none or in the case of the lighter photo, a slight magenta cast to the 200EXR.

Interesting!!

It's cute, but don't be a prisoner of hope.

If Fujifilm elects to fill the voids of the F200 feature set and reduce the complexity of which DR-SN-etc.-mode-works-in-which-exposure-mode matrix, we'll likely read how deficient this first try was from both a feature and usability standpoint.

Good sensor, bad package. Not being able to control shutter speed, for example, doesn't make anyone envious.

But keep trying. Posting is free.
