BEWARE - Another Ebay Scam

Hi xchrisx:

I think I wouldn't be too quick in calling this guy a crook! He has 230 transactions to his credit some sells as well as buys. Perhaps he really does have 6 D30s in his possession. The fact that he uses Western Union and money orders is not enough proof to call him a crook.

Has 6 D30's for sale, all his feedback is from him buying things,
not selling.
Accepts only western union and money orders.
Info is exactly the same as the scam i posted a few days ago from
another user.

Anyone ever see an ebay scam where the crook is actually accepting credit cards?
How would you get away with it?

Just wondering because I almost bought a Gitzo tripod off ebay but I didnt bid because the guy refused to accept a credit card payment.

Murph

1. Non-traceable payment.
2. Private auction (so bidders can't be warned)
3. Previous auctions as seller NOT listed as private.

4. Lists "USA" as originating location. In previous auction as seller listed Oregon.

Far too much evidence against this guy.

This is a scam. The same listings were put up AND REMOVED yesterday. For reference. CC are accepted trough Western Union. WU is bad stuff. The seller is using private auction so you can't warn the bidder. Person won't accept escrow.com (I told him I would accept charges) came up with some lame excuse... AND the dead give away to a scam. He said that I can make the WU service in a code name (my wife or what ever) and after I get the package I can get in touch with him and give it. He said WU wouldn't release the money until he had the right name. BULLLLLL!!! That scam started a couple months ago...

The newest scam is that people are selling their ebay names OR they are being hacked. Most of the time you will see a pair of sunglasses next to the alias indicating it has been changed in the last 30 days (usually an email addy change). The smart ones wait 30 days to use it.

This is PURELY a scam. Read this persons page, it is great stufff... http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/icatheeph/

Remember, if is sounds fishy (on ebay) is usually is...A friend of mine got taken a little while ago... I read up on all of this stuff. It is real ugly...

Don,

Ebay has had a terrible problem with "indentity thief." The scammers figure out the password and "borrow" their identity. They then use Western Union which "convieniently" does next to nothing to check anyone's ID. EBAY seems to prefer having a bunch of people get scammed as they just point to their agreement and say sorry, your problem, than to risk challenging a seller. Note the SELLERS are EBAY's customers, not the buyers.

Same for Western Union, the scams are great for them as they get a piece of the action and don't have to refund even their commission on the scam. Most people are not used to dealing with Western Union and think it is some how secure since it is an old established name, only to find out that they might as well have stuffed dollar bills in an envelope and mailed it. There are a lot of people in the world and these scammers count on it and EBAY and Western Uniion are willing to help the scammers.

As a recent MSNBC article pointed out, EBAY seems to be doing very little to stop the recent rash of high ticket item SCAMs, even ones that are obvious to detect. IF EBAY were to make a serious attempt to stop the SCAMs it would not be so bad, but they don't seem to want to do much to stop it.

All 6 auctions have ended, within 15 minutes, with "Buy it Now" for $1,300. It appears from the seller's feedback page that someone named "mickeydimples" bought all 6 and left very negative feedback. "mickeydimples" must be one of the eBay vigilantes this MSNBC article was talking about:

It is not "Private" and not 3 day, but the photo and description are generic and ripped off from somewhere else. Could be a scam or just a very inexperienced but honest seller. I would be very careful and email the seller with lots of questions and not bid unless I got very good answers.
What do you guys think of this one?
The info for the auction is almost identical.

Hi,

My sale:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1368988483

Bogus sale:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370166831

A couple of days after mine had started some guy copied my selling text, right down to all the extras etc I was selling with it. I complained to Ebay and the auction did 'end' but it's still visible and it doesn't really offer any information as to why it ended.....did somebody send this guy payment!

So, I complained to Ebay once again mentioning that although the bogus sale was no longer listed it could still be seen accessing the auction ID. I have asked Ebay to remove the auction so that my copied text is completely gone. Prospective bidders were actually emailing me to ask if I was one and the same person as the scammer!
Have a look at SRLF's feedback, it's unbelievable.

Ian.

I think this was probably a case of stolen identity. Notice that the last feedback was May 2 and all of it had been as a buyer, not seller. I have noticed that most stolen identity cases involved someone who had not been using (or probably watching) their account. Why the auction ended is confusing. The quantity says "0" which I guess means the buyer doesn't have a camera to sell, but I have never seen one end like this.

That's funny. Thanks for the laugh. :)
I would pay $$$ to see the seller's face when he sees your email. LOL

Leadpony's user name has changed to prompt_sell. What's going on? This is the same auction I looked at earlier and the same feedback page, but suddenly the crook has a new name.
