I need a new tele to photograph my new corgi puppy.

I already have a 200/2 VR, but it is just too heavy and bulky to carry around. Use D3 and S5

I know the IQ for the Sigma 100-300/f4 is not bad but it is lack of VR. And 300mm is a bit too long for hand held. The 70-300VR is small, light and cheap but the IQ is not as good. Then it is the king of 70-200/2.8 VR or 80-200/2.8 AFs. The 70-200 has VR but the IQ is not ass good as 80-200 AFS. Also the price is an issue. On the other hand the 80-200 AFS has the best IQ but lack of VR.

All these 4 lens has its pros and cons.

If it is for you, which one you will pick?

thanks ahead

The 70-200VR + TC14 is the best solution to get (almost) 300mm reach handheld.

The Sigma 100-300 is, if you get a good copy, a a higher level in IQ but lacks VR
Only if you main concern weight go for the 70-300VR

So I'd say it depends on the main purpose.

I'd put the 70~200 VR up there with any of the lenses you mentioned on IQ and ahead of them on handling. I think reports of softness in the corners are exagerrated and in any case you are not shooting landscapes. Size and price might put you off but this lens is an easy choice for me.
