According to this quote from a French site, Sigma's new "kit zoom alternatives" will have optical stabilisation even for Sony and Pentax:

"Par ailleurs, les 18-50 mm et 50-200 mm, destinés à concurrencer les zooms que les fabricants de reflex intègrent dans leurs kits de base, passent à la motorisation HSM et à la stabilisation OS. Y compris dans leur version Pentax ou Sony, afin d’affermir la visée, même si ces reflex comportent une unité de stabilisation au niveau du capteur".

This means that Sony owners can have a stabilised viewfinder image, but they don't say if the SSS has to be shut off, or if the OS is deactivated during exposure - or if both alternatives are available.

I saw something where Sony/Pentax users will have a 'choice', meaning that they can use one or the other,.

Some people would prefer the option to use in-lens AS as this stabilises the viewfinder but I assume that using such Sigma lenses would require the user to manually deselect the camera AS themselves ?

The idea of Sigma lenses interfering with the camera OS to switch off the in-camera AS settings would be surely not tolerated by Sony ?

I would suspect so. I can't imagine the 2 systems working in concert.

Does Sony have any say in the matter? From what I have read Sigma doesn't license the A-mount but instead reverse-engineers things and makes compatible lenses. Sony is not involved in the development of Sigma lenses at all (if you can believe what you read here ;).

I have the 18-50 2.8 and it is a great lens, but mine doesn't have OS. I do have the 18-200 OS. Both are great lenses, and Sony shooters will especially like the 18-50.
