To me it looks like out of focus. Am I right? Also, I read in one
of the posts that 7i doesn't focus to iternity if there's not
enough contrast details but to a certain distance? Sorry, don't
remember what thread/post nor that distance. Could it be that when
a picture out of focus it appears to have much more noise than in
focus?

Yes and no. If this is cropped a little and displayed as a 4x5 print - NO - there is not too much noise. Presented at 8x10 size - YES - IMO, there is too much noise. The most important point to remember is you came back with the shot (even though you must have shot this a high ISO and made a trade-off against noise).The challenging conditions? I was pulled over in traffic trying to
snap the sun going down behind Kansas City, MO.
What do you think? Is there too much noise in the shot? (look at
the sky...)
I get mixed results with some of my work.
