Please tell me is there any autofocus Tamron 50/8 telephoto mirror lenses or only manual focus lenses - and especially for the Sony mount?

Have any experiences of that lens? What do you like it?

I assume you mean reflex length. Then why not Minolta or Sony?

Tamron is much cheaper than Sony/Minolta and despite of that a good one, I think... That's why I am interested in Tamron. But are there really af models?

The only mirror reflex lenses that are AF is the minolta and now sony one. there is no others in any mount.

F717 (Legendary)
A700 (what a fantastic machine)
A200 (Almost as fantastic)

Forget the rest, Min/Sony 500MM Reflex really is the best
AF is superb (and only one available anywhere).
Like all cats, the Minolta is rather low in contrast - easy nowadays to fix.

Probably more expensive than old, obsolete Tamron, but OODLES better (I had a Tammy relex about 20years ago) but it IS VFM.

if price is the issue you may consider the Phoenix manual focus. It's only $109

But before you will decide to go for reflex length may I suggest you to have a look at this thread:

Another consideration in favor of the Minolta or Sony reflex is it's light weight.

It is easier to keep the lens steady when handheld, particularly when birding. It's a little tough to use in that it is a prime as opposed to being a zoom, so finding the target can be a little frustrating, but its' light weight more than makes up for this.

I had a Tamron 500 SP reflex a few years ago. It had an Adaptall mount but these are very rare for MAF. It's a good lens but it's only manual focus - and it's very difficult to focus because of the very shallow depth of field. I ebayed it and got a Minolta. The Minolta is autofocus (the only mirror lens ever made that has AF) which is a big advantage.

If you want a 500mm mirror get a Minolta or a Sony - anything else is a bit of a waste of time. You won't have AF and the image stabilisation won't work because the camera won't know what the focal length is.

The pics from the Tamron 500mm reflex do not come out well at all on my Sony A300. They look like i taken a picture through Mexico City's smoggiest day.

I second that. A general lack of sharpness & contrast.

I had kept the one I used on my old X-300 but it went on Ebay as soon as I got a 70-300G (I sold 4 old lenses that were a bit iffy and recouped the whole of the cost of the G).
