Just curious - how difficult is it to swap out the hard drive on the Image Tank? As many seem to fear losing their hard drive on the IT (or other digital wallet) I was wondering about having dual drives and backing up your digital media to each of them. The chances of losing both hard drives would have to be minimal.

Just a thought,
Pat

Its quite simple -- you need a small phillips head screwdriver. Remove 4 screws that hold the shell together, and once its open, remove 3 screws holding the HD to the bracket. The I/O pins mate directly to the drive so you don't need any cables either.

That would work if you only did it once a day, but if you download out in the field, it could be a bit dicey. Some people don't take very many pictures and this would work. It would probably take about 5 minutes to switch out hard drives. plus the time it takes to download cards twice.

It is easy and ive done it about 8x...my concern is how long will it take till the pin bracket breaks off the circuit board?Thatd be a disaster on a vacation...thats why i bought a 2nd unit.

It can be a bit of a tug-o-war getting the pins to slide in and out of eachother...theyr kinda snug.

Seems like you have to make some probability estimations here....

The odds of a hard drive dying while you're in the field....

vs.

The odds of damaging the IB/T or one of the hard drives while doing the 'daily switch'....

If you're really worried, stop by a net shop every week or so and burn some CD backups. Mail a set home. (Gives you theft protection as well.)

If you're really, really worried carry a couple of IB/Ts.

It seems like people get very worried about hard drive crashes. Think how much your IB/T drive starts/runs/stops per trip. Probably a lot less than the typical laptop drive runs per day.
