I have finally bought my S602 two weeks ago. That was after 4 months of endless research and confused over what to look out for. Finally I came to the conclusion and I think is the most important of a digi camera or any camera. That is the ability to do a fast and sharp and correct focusing. No matter how good is the camera, or its lens or its colour or its price or its brand or whatever. If the photo is out of focus, it is out of focus and it is useless and full stop.
Then I make up my mind and just go for S602.
Hope it helps for those new to digi camera.

here here! I had a Minolta Dimage 5 before my 602 (for about a week) and it's auto-focus was next to useless!

If you are new to photography (like me) and you've spent all that money on a digicam you expect the thing to work in 'auto' mode for a bit before you go any further!

I've been very pleased with the 602's auto-focus. It's very very rare that it takes an image that is out of focus - and if it does - it's usually my fault!

Regards,

Neil.

Hey friend,

I am a S602 owner but to be fair, are you sure the auto focus of Minolta Dimage 5 is next to useless? It looked quite an impressive prosumer camera. I have yet to know much about this camera but you sound very serious.

Before I bought my 602 I had originally purchased a Minolta Dimage 5. It's well known that the D5's have an auto-focus problem. Check this out:

This poor guy had 5 of them that didn't work! I took several hundred images in the first few days I owned the camera and at least 50% of them were out of focus in AF mode. Having read the tale above I just sent the camera back and went for the 602.

If you peek into the Nikon forum, it seems that the most common complaint, and the users are up in arms over it, is the poor quality of auto focus with the 5700
